Open Window School has an excellent opportunity for an individual to support grades K-4 curriculum and instruction as Lower School Innovation & Technology Associate Teacher in our fully outfitted Innovation & Technology Lab, a state-of the art innovation facility and fabrication lab for twenty first century learning.

The Lower School Innovation & Technology Associate Teacher will assist in teaching technology, computer science, engineering design, and maker skills, as well as collaborate with faculty to design and coordinate interdisciplinary activities to promote innovative learning. The ideal candidate will have a passion for making, design thinking, project-based learning, and STEM education as well as experience or interest in working in a student-centered, collaborative, and inquiry-based educational environment.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience working with groups of children preferably in a classroom setting
  • An interest in project-based learning, design thinking, and STEM education
  • Facility at mastering and teaching technology and techniques
  • Creative, resourceful, adaptive, and flexible

Well qualified candidates will have the following:

  • Experience with intellectually gifted children
  • Experience with robotics, digital fabrication, electronics, hand/power tools, media production, and/or computer science

Though many of our Associate Teachers hold a teaching certificate, it is not required.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the teaching of grades K-4 technology courses with a focus on computer programming, physical computing, engineering design, and making
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop integrated projects that incorporate principles of innovation and design into curriculum; co-lead and co-teach with teachers in the lab and classroom
  • Assist with the organization, maintenance, and inventory of hardware, software, and other materials in the Innovation & Technology Lab
  • Support classes, students, and teachers that use the Innovation & Technology Lab, ensuring safety of all makers in the space
  • Attend required in service days, meetings, seminars and training sessions
  • Attend and participate in school events
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Assume the Lead Innovation & Technology Teacher role when necessary

Before and After School Program:

Associate Teachers may be asked to supervise for one day per week, for one quarter during the school year or cover for an absent coworker. The before school program begins at 7:15 AM. The before/after school program is an important part of the students’ day and provides an opportunity to work with a broader age range of students.

Start Date: 2020-2021 School Calendar pending. Start Date in Mid-late August 2020 for in-service.

Compensation & Benefits:

This is an exempt, faculty position, not eligible for overtime. Work schedule, not including before school care, is generally 7:50 AM – 3:50 PM, Tuesdays until 5:00 PM for faculty meetings.

First year pay is $35,000 paid over 10 months (September-June). This position is eligible for benefits, including school provided medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage. Eligible employees may make pretax contributions to the 403(b) retirement savings plan and flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care expenses.
