Inspire Awesome with Eastern Washington University! We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Instructional Tech Specialist (ITS 2)

Instructional Technology Design and Development is a division of Outreach and Engagement at EWU. This unit is responsible for research, development, management, and review of all teaching and technology solutions as well as academically oriented graphics and photography. This includes learning management systems (LMS), course development, Media systems and services (streaming, lecture and desktop capture, course recordings, etc.), learning analytics, learning space design, and technology events and workshops.

The Instructional Technology Specialist provides support of instructional technology systems through the maintenance of equipment and assists team members with the implementation and use of instructional technology through collaboration with stakeholders.

This position must have knowledge of IT systems, concepts, and methods.

Required Qualifications

Specific Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management of information systems, education/adult learning, instructional technology or related field.
  • 2 years of recent instructional technology experience relevant to the position’s essential duties.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recognized Teaching Certificate (state issued, Sloan-C, or similar), formal teaching experience and/or certificate/experience in professional training and development; or the ability to obtain relevant certification within 1 year.
  • 2 years of ERP, Learning Management System, or similar enterprise administration or administrative experience.

Assists with needs assessments and capacity planning to interpret and translate instructional technology, data, and technical needs to meet the project goals of stakeholders (institutional, college, department, faculty, student, administration/staff, and the community).

  • Identifies instructional technology needs that can be implemented by stakeholders.

  • Investigates and researches solutions to instructional technology issues identified in capacity planning and needs assessments relative to teaching, technology, and learning.

Provides technical assistance required to ensure that clients have access to required components of the instructional technology infrastructure.
Tasks include:

  • Advises stakeholders in the use and best practices of instructional technology.
  • Drafts resource reference materials for system users including user manuals, online help pages, tutorial videos, and web page content.
  • Provides technical support and guidance relative to problems involving user interface, browser, hardware, and supporting software.
  • Ensures continuous customer support and maintains contact with customer through resolution.
  • Coordinates efforts with the Help Desk to ensure requests are effectively resolved.
  • Evaluates unusual circumstances and considers different approaches while dealing with incomplete and conflicting information.
  • Ensures the solution delivered to stakeholders meets the business need(s) for which the project was undertaken by planning and facilitating user acceptance testing.
  • Performs Tier 2 issue resolution for incoming help requests from end users. Complex problems are referred to a higher level.
  • Maintain technical content and resources for workshops, web presence and signage related to instructional technology.

  • Plans and schedules the installation of new or modified hardware and operating systems and applications software.
