Basic Function

Assist faculty, staff and students using computer lab facilities in in a pleasant and encouraging manner. Monitor and maintain the computer lab facilities and its use.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist faculty, staff and students by providing hardware, software and networking assistance in a pleasant and encouraging manner. Provide one-to-one orientation for new users. Monitor the lab facilities. Troubleshoot problems with equipment, network and printing and escalate to IT department if necessary. Monitor repair process. Re-image machines and report any programs that are in need of updates to IT for imaging as needed. Assist IT with replacing computer equipment when needed. Help faculty and staff with using the lab. Provide in-class demonstrations and in-lab orientation for classes. Maintain the Computer Lab web page. Develop instructional handouts for lab users. Develop instructional programs for faculty on IT processes. Keep computer equipment clean (like monitor screens, keyboards, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

A.A.S. in Computer Information Systems or related field and several years of experience working in a computer lab or equivalent applicable experience or training.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education technology. Teaching certificate in education technology.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work with students at varying backgrounds and educational levels. Have a working knowledge of AV and computer equipment and software used in networked labs. Have a working knowledge of procedures and practices of classroom instruction. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. Have the ability to judge the student’s skill level and provide information on tutoring and other resources. Be able to demonstrate the ability to work well with faculty and staff.
