POSITION SUMMARY:  Federal Way Public Schools’ instructional technology department is taking transformational steps to align with our district strategic plan and theory of action to ensure that ALL central office team members provide evidence-based, responsive, coordinated, and aligned systems of support to schools, staff, teachers, and most importantly ensure scholars have the desire to learn at high levels with academic supports to graduate career- and college-ready. Instructional technology does this through the lens of technology integration within learning, personalized learning defined as blended learning, project based learning, and differentiated instruction as well as science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) integration for all scholars. 

 

To meet this, our instructional technology team strategically integrated into the Teaching for Learning Department is looking to hire an innovative, collaborative, systems thinker in the role of instructional technology specialist. This position, with continued leadership growth potential, will work in partnership with Teaching for Learning content areas in the integration of the Washington educational technology standards, personalized learning strategies, and STEAM experiences within a guaranteed and viable curriculum that creates equity for scholar needs and outcomes.

 

To implement the aforementioned and using a tiered model of support for schools, this position will act as a mentor to site-based teachers in the role of technology integration coaches. This will be done through developing and training others in and to use online, blended, and in person professional development, facilitating coaching meetings, connecting and meeting with coaches at their school sites as they grow as peer coaches to ensure a local, responsive, and immediate impact for staff, teachers, and scholars.

  • Collaborate, develop and mentor others in curriculum development

This position reports to and is evaluated by the Director of Instructional Technology.

Requirements


 

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
Five years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Proven positive record of and training in how to mentor and coach adult learners
Be enthusiastic, flexible and have a commitment to scholars
Experience with staff development of small and large groups of K-12 educators, including in-person, blended, online, and webinar-based strategies
Experience teaching scholars and mentoring teachers using standards-based grading and reporting philosophy
Training in content standards-based technology integration, such as Gates Teacher Leadership Project, Microsoft Peer Coaching, Microsoft Innovative Educator, or other similar product
Possess the leadership experience and cognitive coaching ability to promote high expectations, demonstrated a caring attitude, and establish an environment that enhances collaboration and learning.
Demonstrated curriculum development work and knowledge of integrating Washington educational technology standards and Washington content standards within curriculum
Knowledge or experience in blended learning, inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, science and engineering practices, and/or challenge learning
Plans and prepares for the use of available materials, including technology; can describe technology tools that will support and enhance scholar understanding of content standards
Knowledge of Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and national technology standards for teachers, students, administrators, and library teachers
Experience teaching or coaching using a project-based learning and/or blended learning instructional approach at the elementary, middle school, or high school level
 
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Criminal background clearance
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
Valid Washington state teaching certificate
Valid Washington state driver’s license

Attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling.  The employee may occasionally be required to squat, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation. The employee will constantly be required to sit for extended periods of time and use a computer screen and keyboard, and occasionally be required to climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 5 pounds and must frequently lift /carry up to 10 pounds.  The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 20 lbs.  The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 100 pounds.

This position regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The position constantly deals with interruptions and frequently deals with angry and distraught employees and community members.
 
WORK SCHEDULE 
This position will be on a certificated staff contract and typically works Monday through Friday, eight hours per day, 180 days per year. The employee is expected to work an additional 20 days paid via an additional stipend. This will be a combination of additional meetings and curriculum development work during the school year, plus training days in June following the last day of school and in August.
