Basic Function

Instructional Technology Specialists in the Open Computer Lab (OCL) provide services to include assisting, instructing, and monitoring students, faculty and staff who use services in the OCL in network procedures, basic computer competencies and applications, instructional media and computer assisted instructional programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist, instruct, and monitor students in the OCL during scheduled class sessions, or on a drop-in basis in network procedures, basic computer competencies and applications, instructional media and computer assisted instructional programs. Train new department personnel and manage the lab instructional media and computer assisted instructional programs. Update software and equipment and collect user data. Assist and train campus employees and students in the use of Microsoft Office, class management systems and standard graphical software programs. Must have flexibility to work rotating Saturdays and during peak times during the academic year.

Minimum Qualifications

College level course work or similar level education in information systems, computer science, or a related field or combination of training and related occupational experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field of study; Computer lab or media production experience; Knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office suite; MAC OS and applications, classroom management systems, web software, standard graphics packages; Ability to assist students and faculty to use standard production equipment and software needed for podcasts, videos, and other instructional assignments or web based instruction.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of computer operating systems and related accessories ; Knowledge of current technologies; Excellent communication skills and ability to provide instruction as necessary; Ability to independently problem-solve and make IT recommendations to appropriate department; Record keeping skills; Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
