The Instructional Technologist works closely with the instructional designers, faculty, and adjunct instructors to develop technology in teaching materials. This position will provide initiative and contribute to the direction for the application and effective use of current and emerging instructional technologies across multiple content platforms. This position requires continuous interaction with students, faculty, staff and external clients, and is key to preparing faculty and students to configure, operate, and troubleshoot multimedia software and equipment. Activities include: 1) providing learning technology support to the Drake Online Programs community and assisting them in developing technology skills, and 2) assisting faculty in integrating learning technologies into their pedagogy and creating course learning objects, and 3) providintg technical, creative, and visual design support in integrating emerging technologies for online modalities. 4) Delivering high quality product on time.

  • Provides technical support for all online learning management system instructional initiatives to improve learning outcomes, facilitate technology-rich teaching and advance curricular innovation.

  • Consults on the use of appropriate tools and technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

  • Provides technical reviews for developed online classes and works with instructional designers to ensure quality of classes.

  • Assists faculty in developing teaching materials using a variety of tools and products including programming languages, content management systems, Blackboard LMS, eLearning authoring software and similar programs.

  • Assists with support, documentation, and training for learning technology systems.

  • Learns new technologies and evaluates potential applications for teaching and learning.

  • Creates training materials to accommodate self-learners and provides resources for faculty.

  • Interacts continuously with students, faculty, staff and external clients in order to prepare students to configure, operate and troubleshoot multimedia software and equipment.

  • Listens and responds to faculty and student needs regarding multimedia technology in order to identify appropriate hardware, software and training options.

  • Provides support and perform basic troubleshooting to resolve hardware, software and audio-visual problems related to instruction, course work and multimedia production.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

 

  • Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in Instructional or Educational Technology or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience working with faculty and instructors in an institution of higher learning.

  • Experience with Blackboard and other learning technology solutions.

  • Ability to work independently, according to established schedules and to complete assignments and projects, as per defined timelines.

  • Knowledge of various e-learning authoring software/tools.

  • Knowledge of Online Course Quality Assurance.

  • Ability to research and implement appropriate new technologies.

  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and extensive confidential data. 

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to lead, instruct, handle a large variety of details and to work with all levels of organization, with excellent attention to detail

  • Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Instructional or Educational Technology or related field from an accredited college or university with at least two years of relevant work experience.
