Work Conditions: Job is sedentary in nature. Flexibility with work schedule required on occasion (early mornings, evenings and weekends). Physical conditions may include light work that involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally in order to move computer and A/V equipment as needed.

Duties of Position:  

The Instructional Technology Specialist assesses opportunities to improve the student learning experience and recommends technology solutions for faculty. The Instructional Technology Specialist provides training and support for faculty using instructional technology to develop course materials, create learning objects, and enhance learning in face-to-face and online environments. This position will also provide backup Learning Management System (LMS) technical support via phone and email.

  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements instructional technology that advances the student experience and aligns to strategic and departmental goals.

  • Supports faculty in improving the student learning experience through the development and integration of technology tools into their courses.

  • Gathers input from stakeholders to determine instructional technology needs.

  • Maintains hardware, software, and subscriptions supported by the Academy for Teaching Excellence; monitors usage and functionality; recommends renewal and replacement.

  • Ensures that the Academy recording studios are fully operational and equipped with appropriate hardware and software to support lecture capture, live streaming, and audio/visual production.

  • Provides training on instructional technologies for faculty and Academy staff users in group settings and in one-on-one environments.

  • Develops presentation and training materials for instructional technologies delivered during in-person training sessions and also in digital/on-demand format.

  • Collaborates with the Distance Learning Manager and Instructional Design Team to implement technologies and web-based applications that improve the online student experience.

  • Tests and assesses the integration capabilities of instructional technologies with the LMS and relevant college systems.

  • Serves as backup LMS technical support for faculty and staff users via phone and email when the LMS Administrator is away from the office and also during peak times.

  • Collaborates with the Learning Management System Administrator to improve the LMS user experience for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Serves as a member of the Instructional Design Team in the Academy for Teaching Excellence and collaborates on projects with Academy instructional designers and the Instructional Media Specialist.

  • Performs related duties as assigned

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience Requirements: Experience working with Learning Management Systems required. Experience with instructional technologies such as audio/visual creation and editing software, lecture capture software, virtual classroom/web conferencing software, and e-learning packages required.  Excellent collaborative, communication and organization skills are required.
