The Congressional Schools of Virginia has an immediate opportunity for an Interim Library Media Specialist. The Library Media Specialist is in charge of the daily operation of the libraries in the Early Childhood program and Lower & Middle schools. The Library Media Specialist maintains the library collection and works with faculty and students, incorporating library skills into classroom curriculum and projects.

Responsibilities include providing formal instruction in library, media, and technology skills, as well as informal assistance to students and staff in locating and using library media materials and technology. The Library Media Specialist will also be responsible for planning and teaching lessons on children’s literature, information resources, search techniques and research methods, both general and in specific subject areas. Additional duties include daily management of library media center routines, evaluation and selection of library media materials, ordering, circulation control, etc; administration of the program budget and oversight of acquisition and use of space, furnishings, equipment, and resources. The Library Media Specialist will be responsible for collection development and maintenance of the Early Childhood library and the Lower/Middle schools library; consult with teachers as they plan instruction to ensure the incorporation of appropriate library, media, and technology materials into daily teaching, and to recommend the inclusion of library, media, and technology skills instruction in classroom units, and work with faculty to identify links with curricular content, learning outcomes, student information needs, and information resources.

Qualified candidates will have a Master’s degree in Library Science; experience working with PS – 8 students in an educational setting; and familiarity with Follett Destiny.
