Position Summary

Responsible for the campus voice and data infrastructure, as well as devices attaching to the network such as VOIP, switches, routers, firewalls, vpn’s, servers (Windows, Linux, AIX), storage systems (NAS, SAN, etc.), and security cameras, along with the connecting fiber and copper cabling. This position is responsible for the employees tasked with maintaining these systems. The position reports to the Director of Technology Services.

Summary of Job Duties

• Manage and maintain the VMware virtual infrastructure.  
• Manage and maintain the SAN (storage area network) infrastructure.  
• Manage and maintain Active Directory, LDAP, and other Directory Services structures.  
• Manage and maintain the network switches, routers, wireless devices, vpn’s, UPS units, and firewalls.  
• Manage and maintain all servers including both physical and virtual, along with the following OS: Windows, Linux, and AIX.  
• Oversee and monitor IT Infrastructure staff’s Service Now tickets and projects, including upgrades, patches and fixes according to the change management procedures and policies.  
• Oversee network alerting systems and security cameras.  
• Oversee the backup systems, including retention, off site storage, and related DR. 
• Creates and communicates policies and procedures, and ensures that they are being followed. 
• Provides backup and support for employees in the department, including troubleshooting, guidance, and mentoring.
• Work with vendors on design, purchases, budgeting for future needs, and troubleshooting as needed. This occurs as needed.
• Search out training opportunities for staff to grow and enhance their skills.
• Learn the job skills of employees and be able to fill in for them as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-time attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems or related field, five years’ related work experience, and three years of supervisory or management experience in a technical field. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these basic requirements upon approval.

Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of supervisory or management experience in a technical field over 5 or more direct reports.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and experience with data network systems and both wide and local area networking.
• Knowledge and experience with servers and server applications, and how they interact with other systems.
• Knowledge and experience with Active Directory
• Knowledge and experience with VMware and/or Windows Hyper-V virtual server technology and SAN storage. 
• Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work well in group situations as a supervisor and as a contributing team member.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work within state guidelines.
• Troubleshooting focused on determining hardware vs. software, hardware vs. firmware, software vs. operating system, network vs. application/systems, and patterned vs. non-repeatable problems.

Special Job Dimensions

Work performed primarily in an office setting (80%). Some work performed in server rooms and network closets (20%). Travel occasionally required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. Required abilities include walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Visual demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears.

Work Schedule

Normal working schedule is 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with extended hours required outside of normal working hours for downtimes.
