Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Division of Academic and Student Affairs Technology Services (DASA Tech) provides technology leadership and support to the Division of Academic Student Affairs, and services as the central technology unit for the entire Division. DASA Tech is responsible for technology planning, budgeting, hardware, software and service procurement, and overall technology oversight.

Essential Job Duties

This position serves as an IT Manager for DASA Technology Services, with significant responsibility in two key areas for the operation – Asset Management and Project Management, as outlined below. Additionally, this position will also utilize IT Service Management concepts with this work, and provide leadership on two important ITSMelements – service catalog and service workflow.

Asset Management: DASA is on pace to complete over 500 purchases of technology hardware, software and services for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. This position will develop and implement an overall asset management framework with the goal of improved efficiencies for DASA Tech and cost savings for DASA departments.

Project Management: DASA is large division with about 50 departments, roughly 600 employees, and a very large facilities footprint: 20 residence halls, 5 apartment complexes, the Student Health Center, University College Commons, Thompson Hall, Price Music Center, and the Carmichael Complex. DASA has its own Facilities, HR, Finance and Marketing/Communications teams as well. As such, there are always very large projects in progress for DASA Technology Services. Facilities renovations, new construction, office moves, conference room and classroom upgrades, and special events. This position will manage both small and large projects for DASA Tech; this will include providing much needed assistance with tech-related facilities projects, which are currently managed by just one other person and for which we have no other in-house expertise or capacity.

Asset Management:

Develop and implement an asset management framework
-Develop and maintain standard configurations for equipment used by DASAdepartments (desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, printers, conference and classroom equipment, etc)
-Develop and maintain Service Catalog of software, which would include campus, division, and perhaps department-wide listings and request processes.
-Develop and maintain standard service contracts for DASA departments (outsourced printing, cellular, outsourced cable/wifi, etc)
-Ensure compliance with university and UNC System Office and State of NC purchasing guidelines
-Develop purchasing protocols that improve efficiencies for DASA departments and DASATech, such as pooled desktop purchasing at the division level.
-Manage asset lifecycle of requisition through disposal
-Develop an overall schedule for procurement of standard items that aligns with DASAdepartment fiscal planning and DASA Tech Service Desk activities
-Analyze deployment, maintenance and repair of assets with Strategic Leads and Service Desk to inform overall asset management
-Work with Strategic Leads regarding re-assignment of assets across DASA departments
-Oversee storage of assets as needed, such as during renovations or large purchases
-Oversee disposal of assets in conjunction with the Service Desk, coordinating with the university’s Materials Management unit as needed.

Reporting
-Develop annual, standard inventory reports of hardware, software, and services to be used by Strategic Leads and DASA department leaders for annual technology budgeting
-Provide aggregate asset management data to DASA Tech leadership for overall planning
-Develop data and recommendations for improvements to be used by DASA Tech leadership and DASA leadership

Project Management:

-Develop asset deployment plan with Service Desk Manager
-Coordinate equipment installs (e.g., conference and classrooms)
-Assist the DASA Tech Assistant Director on construction and renovation projects
-Coordinate DASA departmental office moves
-Coordinate large event support (e.g., emergency preparedness drills, Convocation, Packapalooza, GenEd Assessment testing)

Service Management:

-Develop and maintain a service catalog for DASA Tech in conjunction with OIT’s Service Catalog
-Developing workflow for service requests fulfilled by DASA Tech

Other Work/Responsibilities

Represents Division of Academic & Student Affairs on various campus technology committees and task forces. Works with other DASA Tech staff to provide cross-support in other areas in the Division.

Minimum Experience/Education

Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the area of assignment; or bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the area of assignment; or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Departmental Required Skills

-Advanced knowledge of technical, tactical and strategic aspects of workstation and peripheral integration and support
-Ability to lead technical both small and large projects and coordinate with campus partners, including the management of timelines and resources
-Knowledge of IT Service Management concepts
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

-Five years progressive experience integrating and supporting technologies for departments
-Experience managing complex projects
-Experience working in higher education
Certificate in ITIL Foundations
