The Academy for Global Citizenship seeks an exemplary Information Technology Manager and Design Teacher for the 2016-2017 school year.  This position involves teaching a technology and design class to our 6-8 graders and providing technical support for our infrastructure. The successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies and experience. As a design educator, this individual is responsible for teaching students about the design process and engaging students in using design thinking to address practical changes. As our in-house technology support, this individual proactively addresses school technology needs and supports the integration of technology across grade levels and departments. As a technology manager with vision and practical knowledge, the ITMDT is informed of relevant developments and research, ensuring that every opportunity is taken both to enhance the quality of education provided to the students and to promote the perception of the school by our community members. The ITMDT reports to the Principal.

 

The role of the ITMDT within the Middle Years Programme assumes a knowledge of the philosophy and practices of the International Baccalaureate approach. The successful candidate should be an adaptable and inspiring educator, with the ability to deliver a coherent, balanced, integrated, inquiry-based programme in design thinking and should be capable of preparing students for international programmes in a stimulating, challenging and well-organized learning environment.  In addition, the role of ITMDT assumes professional responsibility for providing, leading and facilitating diverse and effective learning experiences using technology in a supportive and positive climate across the Middle School and Primary School.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • IT Management:Support a fleet of 100 Apple computers and network; managing support for google accounts for each kids; and across two buildings.
  • Network Maintenance: Effectively maintains all technology equipment, in the technology room, in the computer carts, and in the classrooms; and maintains the school network; works with eighth graders to support the network and take on tasks as appropriate.
  • Instruction: Teaches 3-6 sections of a Design and Technology class in the Middle School and a Middle School advisory/elective class in the mornings.  The specific schedule will be decided in the spring of 2016.
  • Advisory: Supports the social-emotional and academic growth of a small group of students from their first day of 6th grade through 8th grade graduation.
  • Professional Development: Stays abreast of latest techniques and demonstrates an eagerness to learn new skills and share experiences with others; and contributing to the continuous process of formulating and reviewing the AGC School Goals for technology. Searches for new ways to use data to inform instruction and improve student learning.
  • Technology Planning: Responsible for the identification and allocation of appropriate IT resources within the school’s overall resource plan; setting targets and providing a term by term overview of progress for the executive director; ensuring effective continuity and progression between all internal educational stages; contributing to the development of the school budget and helping to ensure that the appearance and fabric of the educational facility reflects the expectations of a 21st century international school.
  • Collaborate: Works well with others; leads, models and inspires staff to  thoughtfully integrate technology into their lessons when appropriate; demonstrates clear and comprehensive computer knowledge and skills; works with staff and pupils in  both the primary and middle school, with responsibility to introduce and develop concepts, processes and skills related to the MYP Design Technology programme; and ensures the safe use of the technology room during lessons.
  • Curriculum Development: Works with colleagues to develop the Design and Technology class for MYP; ensures that the IT standards are integrated into instruction; ensures the quality, breadth, balance and relevance of the IT curriculum received by students.
  • Performance Assessment: Sets high and measurable goals for student achievement and evaluates student progress in the instructional program.
  • Community: Encourages the use of community resources, cooperates with families in welcoming them to our community, and maintains solid communication with all community members.
  • Coordinate testing technology: Experience implementing accountability testing systems across grades K-8, including: MAP, ACCESS and PARCC.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5+ years experience as a technology / design thinking educator (ideal)
  • Fluent with Apple devices and platforms (OS, iOS, iPad, Mac computers)
  • Experience managing computer networks and device management
  • Bilingual and biliterate (English/Spanish)
  • Familiarity with IB program (ideal)
  • Familiarity with various educational models: Inquiry-based teaching and Responsive Classroom
  • Believer in culturally relevant teaching
  • Strong leadership skills and personal drive
  • Ability to maintain a safe, orderly environment
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Technically proficient in Apple operating systems, internetworking protocols, server and other file-sharing systems, office applications, tablets and smartphones, smartboards, and data communications; experience in A-V systems and video-editing preferred

 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education
  • Master’s Degree in technology and education
  • State of Illinois Teaching Certificate
  • ESL or Bilingual Endorsement (ideal)
