We have an immediate opening for a full or part-time IT manager / network administrator.

This position requires that the candidate live in provided housing on property.  The candidate must also have their own mode of transportation (property is large enough to require vehicle to transport equipment between buildings).

This is an opportunity for an experienced IT professional to bring his or her IT skills into a well-established community located on 350 acres of redwoods overlooking the Monterey Bay. It is an ideal way to take a break from the traditional job market and experience life in an educational and spiritual community while helping to maintain the community IT infrastructure. The ideal applicant would look forward to being a member of a small team providing help desk support and network administration for approximately 12 servers, 180 desktop and laptops, and 60 users.

Job Description
The candidate will help manage, oversee, and support network administration and some help-desk support for the school, but will also provide these services and day-to-day technical needs of the various other non-profit business entities that share the property and network.  These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Internal network services and system maintenance — ensures backups complete successfully, network monitoring, maintaining networking equipment (includes switches, firewalls, WAPs, routers, etc.), UPS and power management.
  • Internet connectivity — track usage and downtime, working with ISP to resolve issues.
  • Help Desk — resolve end-user problems with hardware and software, including Windows updates, print services, hardware and software installation and maintenance.
  • Documentation — create and maintain procedures, records, and activity logs

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting a Windows based small enterprise LAN
  • Windows Server 2012 experience
  • Active Directory management
  • Windows 7 support and troubleshooting
  • Google Apps for Education (GAFE) knowledge
  • Comfort and experience making purchasing decisions for desktop and network equipment
  • PC hardware installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to easily learn and apply new technologies
  • Flexibility and the ability to work well with others
  • Ability to be self-directed and manage projects with limited oversight, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to lift, transport, and install standard computer and related equipment

Skills and experience in the following areas would be considered a plus:

  • Mac OS X administration and troubleshooting
  • Networking experience with Cisco IOS and Ubiquiti Unifi, Nanobeam and Rocket lines
  • Knowledge of various applications including:
    • Sage 300
    • Adobe Photoshop, PageMaker and Acrobat
