Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue (VBS) & VBS Day School (K-6) are seeking an innovative, creative and hands-on IT & Media Director to establish, plan and administer long and short-range IT goals and policies through fiscally responsible means for both the synagogue and the schools, while also handling the day-to-day technical support needs of the organization. This position plays a key role in driving and supporting VBS initiatives in expanding on-line programming and content production using social media and online platforms to support increased levels of community outreach, including overseeing media technology, live stream coordination and oversight, video production and editing, and other content platform technologies. Working with all school and synagogue departments, this position analyzes the needs of different departments and determines the best solutions to meet business objectives.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Organization-Wide Responsibilities:

  • Champions GSuite with extensive knowledge and ability to train on Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Classroom and GMail, Google Forms, as well as Microsoft Office products

  • Handles system hardware and software acquisition and management including server management

  • Device management including iPads, Chromebooks and computers, Chromebits, Chromecasts, Apple TV, Tstats, etc

  • Owns and oversees system security (firewalls, passwords, etc)

  • Designs and oversees network architecture

  • Manages day-to-day helpdesk for synagogue and schools

  • Manages technology budget

  • Oversees system shutdowns, upgrades, and safeguarding

  • Handles all technology set-ups for events and services

  • Responsible for all staff training on new software and equipment

  • Researches and oversees live stream software implementation, staffing and training

  • Website and database support and upgrades

  • Working knowledge of, or ability to learn, Shulcloud database, ability to add new users, run reports, and assist with online member portal issues

Day School Responsibilities:

  • Maintains computers and iPads, SMARTBoards and electronic equipment (e.g. television systems, projectors, printers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining equipment in a safe and functional operating condition

  • Maintains ticket system/help desk for support requests

  • Manages student and staff devices

  • Working knowledge of, or ability to learn, Blackbaud and Raiser's Edge software programs

Media/Production Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Marketing and Communications Department to ensure best practices in all media, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram

  • Oversees livestream efforts, High Holiday broadcasts, and other virtual platform needs, including hardware and software

  • Films, edits and creates videos for promotional purposes

  • Familiar with A/V systems, can troubleshoot broadcast audio issues and train staff on use

  • Experience with editing and recording software, such as iMovie, FilmMaker Pro, and Adobe Premiere

  • Maintains the synagogue video archive on YouTube

  • Assist clergy and staff with streaming issues and troubleshooting

Vendor Management/Outsourced Tasks Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and manages vendor relationships for network equipment, telephone, WiFi, audio/video, streaming and other technology systems as needed

  • Establishes and implements computer system service agreements with maintenance service providers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field;

  • 5+ years of experience working in IT operations and overseeing large information technology projects;

  • Excellent understanding of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and telecommunications systems;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively and clearly communicate with teams across the entire organization;

  • Ability to breakdown technical jargon for a non-technical audience;

  • Ability to address a group and keep people engaged during a training;

  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, self-starter, capable of taking direction but working independently and collaboratively with a team;

  • Experience with video/media production a plus;

  • Strong knowledge of project management principles;

  • Experience working in a school environment;

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends;

  • Background check and LiveScan is required.
