The IT Professional II (IODP Title: Configuration Specialist) position is responsible for managing all aspects of IODP s configuration management program on ship and shore, including: asset management, software licensing, IT project coordination, conducts audits, review policy, service catalog maintenance, hardware and software procurement, system installations, issue troubleshooting and resolution, and enterprise architecture baseline documentation. This position also assists the department manager with preparing reports and managing contacts and section budgets.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of experience in systems administration, service delivery, or hardware/software installation and maintenance.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Information Technology Service Management and Infrastructure Library (ITSM/ITIL) concepts and best practices.

  • Knowledge of project management concepts and best practices.

  • Knowledge of configuration management best practices.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Required Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

  • Ability to obtain passport and international travel visas on a continuing basis.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Resolve hardware and software problems with vendor technical support; Repair hardware problems; Install, configure and maintain both critical and noncritical software and hardware; Provide primary administration responsibility for a basic software products or system; Prepare specifications for purchases of hardware and software upgrades; Assist with production control, disaster recovery, networking, computer operations, or other operating systems; Coordinate property control, inventory, and maintenance contracts; Document and update IODP s current ( as is ) IT enterprise architectures using databases and special drawing tools; Manage software licensing and insure compliance; store, inventory and control software; stay abreast of new software releases; Document all changes to systems software and develop entries for a configuration management database; Continually review and record changes to IODP s IT services environment; Support software and hardware migration initiatives; and Maintain IODP s IT configuration management plan, configuration management database (CMDB) and service catalog.

  • Develop computing plans for customers; Provide technical oversight of computing systems testing and applications; Provide support for infrastructure connection in emergencies or changing environments; Purchase new hardware and software; Assist the department Supervisors and Manager with preparation of annual and quarterly budget reports; Process IODP IT related requisitions and invoices; and Oversee maintenance of IT service agreements.

  • Coordinate agendas and maintain logs for the Issues Management Team; Manage IODP Project Portfolio List; Manage department logs; Conduct event planning in support of department events and training; and Help to facilitate the IT change management process.

  • Performs other related duties are required.
