Job Summary

Under general direction, the IT Relationship Manager designs and oversees the relationship management program to coordinate engagement of stakeholders and end users in a meaningful way with the University’s IT department. Goals of this program include a streamlined and transparent demand intake process that ensures alignment of IT services and projects to strategic goals, stakeholder needs, and resource capacity; deeper engagement of faculty, staff, and students with IT staff and governance; enhanced adoption of existing and new technologies; improved information/knowledge sharing and collaborative problem solving among IT staff. The IT Relationship Manager establishes and maintains ongoing relationships with functional units, University leadership, IT staff, and IT Portfolio Teams to understand business needs, align existing services to meet existing needs, identify gaps, and collaborate with technical resources to research and recommend new services based upon business case.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to capture and explain goals and objectives to business units as well as technical team members and leadership

  • Strong understanding of technology and IT services

  • Knowledge of academic, research, and healthcare business units including knowledge of related industry trends and innovation

  • Excellent analytical, collaboration, and facilitation skills

  • Effective at negotiation and being able to drive collaboration through open and transparent discussion of competing priorities for resources

  • Project management experience

  • Demonstrated experience in managing relationships and engaging leadership and other stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in information systems, business administration, project management, data analytics, or related field; supplemented with five (5) years of experience in information technology, technical project management, or a related field. Experience in a Higher Education environment preferred.

Coordinates and runs weekly relationship management meetings for IT staff to highlight major efforts, discuss potential challenges or gaps, and improve knowledge sharing.

Manages the IT demand management process to identify possible new projects and services based upon strategy and business needs; works with end users and IT staff to develop business case including prioritization and cost/resource analysis; develops annual IT investment plan for approval by IT Steering Committee based upon prioritization from IT Advisory Committee and capital funding.
