Technology Support
The function of technology support is to maintain the school’s end-user computer equipment, software and peripherals, such as workstations, laptops, printers, and copiers. This involves ensuring that the equipment is properly installed, configured, and functioning at optimum levels for efficient and effective usage by students, teachers, and administrators. This also involves managing the connectivity of user-supplied devices on the school’s wireless network.
 
A person tasked with this role will:
 
Maintenance and Repair
  • Oversee a help desk ticketing system for end users to report technical problems
  • Diagnose and resolve everyday technical problems with school-owned computer hardware and software, and school-issued user accounts for network, email, voicemail, and web-based systems (e.g., resetting passwords)
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance (such as vacuuming equipment cases and inspecting all moving parts), updates, and repair of the computer technology located in the library, computer labs, classrooms and other computer-enabled facilities, with priority given to workstations and monitors, laptops and docking stations, printers and copiers, scanners and other computer equipment directly related to daily teaching and learning activities
  • Troubleshoot wireless connectivity problems with mobile devices under the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) program
  • Engage outside vendors, as needed, for advanced technical support and special equipment rental
 
Inventory and Budgeting
  • Maintain a sufficient inventory of consumables for printers and copiers (e.g., paper, toner) and replace the supplies in those devices, as needed
  • Maintain spare workstation, laptop, netbook and tablet computers, and a sufficient supply of replacement components (e.g., hard drives, power supplies)
  • Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer to develop a budget for IT consumables, replacement components, and repairs
Training
  • Write self-help documents, and conduct individual and group training sessions, as needed, for those using on-campus computer equipment and related end-user software
  • Respond to requests for technical support at on-campus events by overseeing the setup and proper operation of IT equipment
 
 
 
 
Technology Integration
  • Collaborate with department heads and members to identify, install and properly configure the course-required software for the following school year to ensure that it is made part of the computer cloning process
  • Conduct usability testing of computer clone models to confirm that they meet projected classroom needs
  • Build, test, and deploy clones of computer desktops and mobile devices, and maintain an archive of clone images
  • Work jointly with the designated Event Coordinator and the Network Administrator to fulfill IT equipment needs for on-campus events (e.g., moving and configuring computers for advancement campaigns, computers for AP exam testing, and point-of-sale (POS) terminals for Bookstore sales)
 
Other
  • Participate in developing and updating the Technology Plan
  • Perform other technology-related functions as directed by the Chief Technology Officer
 
Media Services Support
The function of media services support is to maintain the school’s end-user multimedia equipment, such as sound systems and presentation platforms, and to provide creative and technical assistance with media production. This involves ensuring that the equipment is properly installed, configured, and functioning at optimum levels for efficient and effective usage by students, teachers, and administrators. This also involves providing guidance on industry best practices in digital and print media.
 
A person tasked with this role will:
 
Maintenance and Repair
  • Manage or perform the installation and configuration of all multimedia equipment
  • Oversee all facets of support for the multimedia equipment on campus, including multimedia and overhead projectors, TV and plasma displays, digital signage, projection screens, portable CD/DVD players, speakers, microphones, video recorders, and digital cameras
  • Diagnose, repair, or otherwise resolve everyday technical problems with multimedia equipment
  • Provide routine preventative maintenance (such as cleaning air filters and recording lamp hours) on the multimedia technology located in the Coaches’ Pavilion, Salem Student Commons, Remillard Hall, conference rooms and other multimedia-enabled facilities (excluding the Remillard Family Atrium and the Robert R. Jay Performing Arts Center in Founders Hall, and Black Box Theater in Ryken Center), with priority given to classroom projectors and other multimedia equipment directly related to daily teaching and learning activities
  • Coordinate with the Theater Director to ensure proper functioning of the multimedia equipment located in the Remillard Family Atrium and the Robert R. Jay Performing Arts Center in Founders Hall, and Black Box Theater in Ryken Center
  • Solicit the services of outside vendors, as needed, for professional video services, advanced technical support, and special equipment rental
 
Inventory and Budgeting
  • Maintain a sufficient inventory of consumables for projectors and video recorders (e.g., bulbs, air filters, blank DVDs, mini DV tapes, sleeves, batteries) and replace the supplies in those devices, as needed
  • Maintain a spare multimedia projector and a sufficient supply of replacement components for all multimedia equipment (e.g., VGA and HDMI cords, extension cords)
  • Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer to develop a budget for multimedia consumables and repairs, and professional video services (e.g., filming, editing, and mastering the graduation DVD)
 
Rental and Staffing
  • Work jointly with the Director of Communications, the Audio Club Moderator (e.g., for Masses), the Athletic Director, and/or the designated Event Coordinator (e.g., for the Gala or facility rental requests) to manage the scheduling, delivery, return, and secure storage of multimedia equipment loans (e.g., microphones, speakers, video recorders, digital cameras, tripods)
  • Assist the Director of Communications, as needed, with the scheduling of photographers and videographers at on-campus events
 
Training
  • Write self-help documents, and conduct individual and group training sessions, as needed, for those renting multimedia equipment, maintaining digital signage, or utilizing the multimedia technology of on-campus gathering spaces
  • Respond to requests for technical support at on-campus events by overseeing the setup and proper operation of multimedia equipment
Media Production
  • Work jointly with the Director of Communications and the Athletic Director to coordinate the editing, duplication, and distribution of video productions and the curation of all multimedia assets
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications to maintain a manual of graphic standards, and enforce its policies, for the proper and consistent usage of the school’s various brand assets
  • Assist the Director of Communications and the various school departments with uploading content to the school’s digital signage
     
Website Support
The function of website support is to assist end-users with the maintenance of the school’s website, using the built-in content management tools provided with the system. This involves working with end users to ensure that they can use these tools to efficiently and effectively create, populate and maintain their class, activity, team, or department webpages.
 
A person tasked with this role will:
 
  • Maintain an up-to-date familiarity with the website and its components, especially those tools commonly used in content management
  • Provide basic technical support to end users in their effort to employ the content management tools to create, populate and maintain their class, activity, team or department webpages
  • Write and maintain self-help documents for using the basic components of the content management tools to maintain basic class, activity, team or department webpages
  • Conduct training sessions, as needed, for those students, faculty, and staff who are responsible for maintaining class, activity team or department webpages
  • Serve as an available resource for individuals seeking to enhance their skills in the management of their webpages
  • Conduct periodic evaluations of the school’s use of it website, considering paths to improve end users’ employment of available features and functions
  • Participate with the Chief Technology Officer and Director of Communications in website reviews, and evaluations, website planning, and collaborative projects involving the website
