The Montessori School of Raleigh (MSR) seeks creative applicants with a commitment to supporting a diverse community of technology users to join our team as the IT Support Specialist. Under the supervision of the Director of IT, this role will work as part of a small and flexible team supporting computing, digital tools, and A/V systems for faculty, staff, and students. This position requires strong interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as an aptitude to teach. Responsibilities will include a strong understanding of a help desk, mobile device management solutions, and how to support an Apple environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
IT Responsibilities 75%

  • Respond to queries via tickets, email, and phone
  • Train other staff members on troubleshooting and diagnose problems
  • Provide technical assistance for questions and problems
  • Resolve some problems with networks and other computer systems
  • Diagnose system errors and other issues
  • Follow up with customers to ensure full resolution of issues
  • Install or change software to fix issues
  • Remote access hardware or software for clients to make changes and fix problems
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Computer Science Teacher Responsibilities 25%

  • Develop interactive lessons to expand students' abilities in digital citizenship and utilize Google Suite tools, coding languages, and physical computing
  • Work collaboratively and integrate lessons with other faculty when possible
  • Provide students with the necessary feedback, critical evaluation, encouragement, and support
  • Attend meetings with other teaching staff, undertake professional development training, and meet with students' parents to discuss their progress

Competencies

  • Education and degree in computer sciences, related technical field, and/or comparable experience desired
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and experience working on a Help Desk that includes hardware repair, troubleshooting, and support of iOS and macOS devices, audio/visual equipment, and multimedia, preferably at a Pre K - 12 institution
  • Background working within an MDM system (Mosyle) or any other solution 
  • Working/teaching knowledge of Google for Education Platform, and other cloud-based applications
  • Involvement in a 1 to 1 solution is welcomed
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute both as an individual and a team member to achieve the goals of the MSR community
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and projects in a timely fashion
  • Strong focus on customer service; must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing with employees, vendors, and users of various competencies

Physical Requirements and Work Environment 
The IT Support Specialist can expect to:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment spending extended periods of time at a desk and working on a computer
  • Regularly sit, talk, hear, and interact with students, parents, staff, and visitors
  • Occasionally life up to 30 pounds
  • Regularly use close and distance vision
  • Turn, bend, and reach
