Information Technology Services at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado is looking for a versatile, intelligent and hard-working individual to join our team. This is an entry level position for the Department but one of the most important, requiring a balance of technical and customer service skills. While many of the duties are well defined, we are a small organization so there is ample opportunity for anyone looking for new challenges in nearly any aspect of Information Technology.

Responsibilities
Broadly, this position provides front-line technical support for many of the systems for which IT Services is responsible. This support includes installation and/or configuration of computing hardware (computers, network switches, printers, etc.), software, A/V devices, network cabling, diagnostics, troubleshooting and end-user assistance.

In addition to the day-to-day technical work, this position is expected to actively improve all processes, both in general and specifically within their assigned scope of responsibility. Examples include, investigating new technology, improving documentation, reducing waste, and/or anything that improves the quality of the delivered product.

This position is also expected to engage in knowledge and/or skill enhancing activity relevant to the campus IT environment. This could include reading documentation, attending classes, seminars or events, attending formal trainings (online or in person) or participating in projects and operations that are outside the scope of the normal job description.

Education
Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of general IT experience.

Required:

  • One year general IT experience

  • Knowledgeable about desktop support

  • A talent for troubleshooting and technical problem solving

  • A customer centric attitude

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong work ethic

  • Most desirable:

  • Experience with general desktop support

  • General knowledge of a wide range of enterprise IT services

  • Experience providing technical assistance

  • Aptitude with Windows & MacOS support

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a higher education environment

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Salary and Benefits
Compensation will start at an hourly rate equivalent to $40,000 per year. The position is FLSA non-exempt and overtime eligible. Excellent shared contribution insurance and retirement plans, paid time off and access to other University benefits.
