Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of IT, the successful candidate will promote the use of technologies to support student achievement in the 2nd through 12th grade classrooms. The Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and security of the school network and computer systems. Duties include, identifying any problems in the network infrastructure, anticipating potential issues, and repairing systems and software when necessary.

This person will protect our critical systems and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in developing the overall IT strategy. This position provides user support for students, faculty, and staff. This person also provides feedback to users to lessen the occurrence of future problems and suggests workflow improvements to the DA community members.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing and maintaining the VMware vSphere (virtualization) platform, virtual and physical server environment, and the physical and cloud-based backup solutions.

  • Managing and maintaining the Cisco/Meraki firewall, switches, and the wireless infrastructure for DA, including fiber/Ethernet infrastructure.

  • Monitoring the local area network (LAN) for threats or errors.

  • Employing the latest security protocols.

  • Onboarding new users and provisioning network and institutional application access.

  • Configuration, management, and support for 300+ workstations, including but not limited to laptops, desktops, mobile devices, and Apple TV’s.

  • Advanced knowledge of macOS, iOS, Google Chrome OS, Windows OS, macOS Server, Windows Server OS, and Active Directory.

  • Google Workspace for Education: Admin Console; account creation and group management; support employees and students in using the products; contact support in the event of service outage or bug; retrieve backups through Backupify service.

  • Chromebook administration using Google Admin console.

  • Administer online IT ticketing system using SolarWinds Web Help Desk software: update and maintain software on the server, monitor incoming requests and assign them to a technician, and follow up with clients.

  • Provide in-person and remote support for faculty and staff. Remote support could be over the phone or using screen-sharing applications.

  • Provide basic tech support for students: troubleshoot network connectivity and account setup on Apple devices or Chromebooks (personally owned but required for school), reset account passwords, provide occasional support for non-school-required devices.

  • Assists the Director of IT in developing short-term and long-term plans for technology.

  • Assists the Director of IT during the budget preparation process by researching the costs of software and hardware and making recommendations.

  • Assists the Director of IT with maintaining site licenses for all software and appliances.

  • 3-5 years related work experience and/or four-year degree in information technology or related field.

  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact well with students, faculty, and staff. Customer service experience is a plus.

  • Educate students, parents, and employees on instructional technologies.

  • Communicate with vendors regarding support and warranty issues.

  • Software & hardware purchasing.

  • May require some heavy lifting of hardware.
