About This Role:

The Software Engineer / Database Developer is responsible for the maintenance, design, and/or development of several software applications for critical and safe operation of the Biosecurity Research Institute. These applications include:  federally mandated Select Agent Inventory database application; Research Project database application that tracks biosafety training, training history, compliance, and other important information; Effluent Decontamination System and Tissue Digester System performance reporting application that automates PDF reports; and Animal Telemetry data collection system. Other responsibilities, duties as assigned, such as assisting, and working with the BRI Technology team for desktop support, mobile support, VPN support, and cyber security.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

Requires an associate degree and one to three years of relevant experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computer science, management of information services or closely related field requiring a high degree of software design and programming expertise.4 years research, teaching or diagnostics lab experience with emphasis in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, public health or related field

  • Knowledge and experience with RESTful services, MVC methodologies, SQL databases, and development methodologies.

  • Experience with contemporary design patterns, including MVVM; Iterative software and engineering processes such as Agile; Version control tooling and documentation; development and debugging tools; Internet of Things.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment

  • Valid Driver's license upon employment

  • Ability to receive a favorable background check from KSU and pass Select Agent Background Check upon employment

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$47,476 – $75,940

Please note: the minimum salary for this position is $47,476. Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
