Major Responsibilities and Duties

The STEAM Integrator will build a STEAM program across the lower and middle schools which aims to advance the existing Science and Technology curriculums by establishing a vertically and horizontally aligned, robust and comprehensive STEAM curriculum. The STEAM integrator will work with teachers in both divisions to infuse STEAM principles across the curriculum. The STEAM Integrator will support the academic goals of the school by developing inquiry based learning experiences that maximize students’ individual success and foster creativity, collaboration, and innovation. The STEAM Integrator will cultivate educationally powerful community partnerships that further enhance STEAM integration and the overall academic experience of each student.

Related duties shall be those guided by the NBPS, ISTE and NGSS Standards and those assigned by the administrative leadership team. Duties shall include management of the vision, use and maintenance of the STEAM Labs and their resources.

Curriculum Development, Instruction and Integration

The STEAM teacher shall:

  • Plan, model, co-teach with, and coach classroom teachers, using research-based science and technology instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered learning experiences that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math with core studies for grades K-8.
  • Demonstrate essential knowledge of the connection between science, technology, robotics, innovation, design thinking and other fields of study.
  • Share the responsibility for teaching middle school academic technology electives.
  • Lead the middle school STEAM activities, including STEAM electives, the weekly after school clubs, and the competitive robotics team.
  • Develop community partnerships to enhance classroom learning and create authentic STEAM experiences.
  • Develop special programming and competitive opportunities to provide additional enrichment experiences for students and families.

Leadership and Professional Growth

The STEAM integrator will:

  • Lead the Science, Engineering and Technology PLC to focus faculty development on shared best practices, data analysis, targeted strategies for deep science and technology learning, and help to develop a collaborative and expert environment to ensure faculty professional growth and student achievement.

  • Identify resources, plan, and design staff development activities to support professional growth in learning technologies.

  • Participate in grade level and department meetings to coordinate curricular projects and provide targeted support towards STEAM instructional approaches as well as work within the Academic Technology department responsibilities.

  • Participate in professional development experiences that allow him or her to observe, evaluate, and apply the use of technology to support instruction.

  • Create and lead parent education opportunities centered on STEAM learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced (Master’s) degree from an accredited college/university.

  • Strong instructional background in science and technology.

  • Expert level of technology and ability to apply contemporary learning strategies.

  • Creative, imaginative and innovative mindset in teaching, coaching and curricular design.

  • Deep knowledge of content standards (specifically in technology and science), effective instructional strategies, and assessment driven instruction.

  • Experience (or familiarity) with tools such as, but not limited to: Lego/Wonder Robots, Makey-Makey, Circuitry, Little Bits, Sphero, Tynker, and Scratch.

  • Experience with Design Thinking, MAC OS, IOS, and Google Apps preferred.

  • Apple Teacher and/or Google Certification.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication, listening, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Excellent presentation skills and engaging presentation style.
