Purpose of Position

Leads technology support specialists and other staff as assigned in support and problem resolution for faculty, staff, and student experiencing technical problems with technology resources. Responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware and software problems in a variety of computing and/or audio/video environments. Also assists with regular installation and maintenance of technology resources.

Primary Responsibilities

Provides audio/video setup and support for University events, classes and meetings. Provides technical support to clients for the operation of basic hardware and software. Diagnoses various problems with hardware, software, or other technology equipment and repairs or facilitates repair in accordance with standard procedures. Assists clients with the operation of event/classroom/conference room presentation systems. Coordinates with other IT groups (e.g. network systems, information systems) to provide user support relative to PC-based systems and their interaction with central systems. Supervises technical support projects, students, and/or staff.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with peers, subordinates, and superiors. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.

  • Ability to work well with difficult people in a service capacity. Ability to manage and motivate staff. Ability to maintain organization and order while retaining sufficient flexibility to respond quickly to shifting priorities and external demands.

  • The ability to detect small, often dimly-lit status lamps that must be checked frequently and audible alarms that must compete with considerable background noise

  • The ability to manage the complexity of dealing with many more software applications than the average user would, many of which have no special accommodations built-in

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand in small spaces for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to climb stairs or ladders
