Job Description

The Research and Instruction Librarian is responsible for providing library services in support of research productivity, teaching, and learning. Reporting to the Library Director, this position participates in the formal educational efforts of the Library, including the development of instructional materials, research guides, web tutorials, videos, and other support services. The incumbent provides consultations and instruction in bibliographic research methods, evidence-based practice, research data management, systematic reviews, and scholarly communication. This position will cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with students, residents, faculty, and staff in support of campus research, teaching, and learning. The Research and Instruction Librarian will also serve as librarian liaison for the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant Studies, and the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences programs.

Job Duties
  1. Provides information, reference, and consultation on research tools, using and retrieving the literature, and effectively managing citations with bibliographic management software. 

    • Provides expert literature search services in support of education, research projects, systematic reviews, and research data management.

  2. Provides formal and informal education courses, seminars, webinars, and workshops in support of research development across the university.

    • Develops online tutorials in support of research, information literacy, and evidence-based practice.

    • Provides instruction on effective searching and evaluation of results for biomedical databases, evidence-based practice resources, and point-of-care tools.

    • Delivers library instruction using technology tools including course management systems, screen casting, and web conferencing.

  3. Develops, maintains, and promotes research guides for specific programs and topics.

  4. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of library services, policies, and procedures.

  5. Serves as a librarian liaison for the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant Studies, and the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences programs.

  6. Participates in committees to support research, teaching, and clinical care activities.

  7. Maintains current knowledge of the trends and issues in higher education, health care, research data management, and scholarly communication.

  8. Participates in library collection development activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate Library / Information Science Degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association;

  • Two years of professional experience in a health sciences library, academic library, or relevant health care setting; 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a public services orientation, demonstrated written and spoken communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment;

  • Strong computer and technology skills, and demonstrated ability to make innovative use of technology in library research services and communications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of user-centered information literacy and evidence-based practice instruction for adult learners in a health care environment; 

  • Experience developing instructional materials, research guides, and web tutorials;

  • Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals
