Friends Academy seeks a passionate, positive, and innovative Library and Digital Media Specialist for the 2018-2019 academic school year. 

 

Responsibilities and qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Design, implement, and instruct Lower School library classes in Grades EC-5

  • Co-manage the day-to-day operations of the library, including budget, program, collection development, circulation, volunteer training/coordination, and physical space

  • Knowledgeable of national and state standards for information and technology literacy, including the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and American Association of School Librarians (AASL) standards.

  • Actively promote reading, information literacy skills, and information resource use through activities including book clubs, reading programs, reading initiatives, and other special school events.

  • Relentlessly sunny outlook on the world and opportunities for young people

  • Desire to contribute to something larger than oneself and a belief in teamwork

  • Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information and ideas.

  • Enthusiasm for collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists to create an integrated academic program for our students

  • Dedication to social-emotional learning and Responsive Classroom practices

  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth

  • Attend faculty meetings and positively contribute to discussion and dialogue

  • Participate in Outside the Classroom trips and overnights

  • Willingness to be involved in our external programs

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Services

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Experience in library technology applications such as Destiny

  • Commitment to teaching and learning in a vigorous progressive school community with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
