The Library and Instructional Technology Coordinator works closely with the Assistant Head of School, the Director of Technology, and the Academic Team to provide leadership for the school’s use of educational and emerging technologies as well as pedagogies and practices surrounding the use of print and digital resources.  This person is a member of a team of educators who will develop, hone, and implement a vision for the incorporation of emerging technologies and best practices in library/academic technology programs at Westridge School. The Library and Instructional Technology Coordinator collaborates with and supports teachers in their use of technology, digital, and print resources to enhance student learning.  In addition, this person oversees the physical space and programs provided within the School’s Academic Resource Center Learning Commons and supports students in their use of that space and its resources.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Academic Leadership and Support

  • Along with a team of educational leaders, develop , refine, and support a common vision for a dynamic program of media and information literacy, technology integration, and learning

 

Technology Integration

 

  • Advise and assist teachers in determining how technology can be implemented in the curriculum to enhance teaching and learning
  • Design and develop a multi-faceted professional development program in teaching and learning with technology
  • Support students in the use of academic technology
  • Identify and support members of the community in sharing their experiences with technology and energize others to be leaders in the use of educational technologies
  • Research and educate the community on trends, research, applications and best practices related to the use of technology in the school’s program

 

Oversight of the Joan S. Irvine Academic Resource Center (ARC) Learning Commons and its personnel

 

  • Supervise ARC learning commons personnel
  • Create a welcome and vibrant atmosphere within the ARC Learning Commons, ensuring the accessibility of the space to all members of the school community, in conjunction with the School’s Research Librarian & Archivist
  • Manage the operation of the school’s Learning Commons and all programs housed within it, in collaboration with the Research Librarian & Archivist
  • Support the work of students through ensuring accessibility of print, digital, and technological resources within the Learning Commons, in collaboration with the Research Librarian & Archivist 

 

Program Development and Implementation

 

  • Develop, implement, and oversee programs within the ARC Learning Commons in accordance with best practices in library programs, in conjunction with the Research Librarian & Archivist
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive research and information/media literacy program to ensure students can apply digital tools to gather, evaluate and apply information
  • Develop and implement a digital citizenship program to empower students to think critically, behave safely and participate responsibly in our digital world 

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Assist with teaching the 7th Grade Computer Science  course and Technology Orientation sessions for new families

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit for extended periods of time; and have sufficient hand, arm and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.  The employee works with electric and electronic equipment.  Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.  Learned physical skill required for keyboarding.
