Position Summary:

The Library Media Specialist oversees:

Use of the library

Supervise the daily use of the library 8:00AM - 4:30PM
Provide materials that help develop an enjoyment of reading
Maintain an atmosphere conducive to serious study and research
Assist in the development of policies for library use
Responsibilities

Administer all government funded programs (e.g. Title V, NYSTYL)
Manage the day to day tasks of the library, including purchasing, cataloging and circulation
Provide end of the year reports on usage of different resources provided
Manage subscriptions to all print and online resources (online databases, Rosetta stone)
Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, Moodle, Destiny Library Manager, iPads and educational iPad apps, etc...
Support the 1:1 iPad program by teaching and helping students or faculty members with any questions that they may have
Be a resource for faculty as they integrate technology into their lessons
Be a resource for public relations related to student life
Staff development programs

Bring knowledge of, or ability to learn about, educational applications available to teachers; assist faculty in learning the different multimedia options that are available to them, including but not limited to Rosetta Stone, Moodle, and iPads
Work with faculty to develop programs that advance the use of technology and library skills to encourage interactive and engaging classrooms
Meet with various departments to develop programs to assist individuals within departments to integrate resources available at Loyola into departmental courses
Evaluate new resources so that faculty will have access to up to date and valuable information, especially new resources related to the iPad and eBooks.
Provide professional development opportunities for faculty members to improve the use of technology in the classroom.
Grade 9 Computer Applications Class

Teach all grade 9 students an introduction to computer and library sciences classInstruct students in online safety, cyber-bullying, and proper use of the internet
Teach all grade 9 students research techniques using bound materials, online materials and electronic media
Instruct students in correct citation of sources and making them aware of the various forms of plagiarism
Teach students how to think logically using software such as scratch
Instruct students on how to install, configure, and use iPad apps that the school has requested that they have on their iPads
Create cross discipline assignments to allow students to practice research and computer skills taught in class
In the tradition of the Jesuit spirit of cura personalis (care and concern for the whole person), Loyola's teachers are also expected to participate as coaches and moderators of teams and activities and to be engaged in the life of the school outside of the classroom; ability to contribute to the extracurricular and spiritual life of the school is required.
