Library Technician                                                                Seattle, WA        

Full Time – academic year + 2 weeks

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Library/Technology team. A qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks as listed below:

  • Acquisition duties, including book and serial ordering, processing, and maintenance of acquisition and budgetary databases
  • Opening the Library and staffing the Circulation Desk
  • Coordinating all circulation functions, including reserve materials, database maintenance, shelving, and over dues
  • Copy and original cataloging, which requires knowledge of MARC records
  • Patron assistance, including answering directional questions, assisting with the use of OPAC and other database products, providing reference support for teaching librarians, and referring patrons to librarians as appropriate
  • Coordinating the work of parent volunteers and library clerk
  • Generating and organizing displays and basic promotional materials
  • Troubleshooting problems with Library computers and equipment
  • Attending periodic late-afternoon meetings and participating in School life
  • Other duties as assigned

Successful candidates will have:

  • Minimum of an AA degree in Library Technician or similar studies, or a four-year degree with two years’ library experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail-oriented tasks and projects
  • Enthusiasm for working with students and the larger School community
  • Love and appreciation of literacy and reading
  • Ability to prioritize duties with limited supervision and work independently
  • Patience and appropriate demeanor in working with students
  • Effective collaboration skills in working with School staff and parents, as well as individuals outside the School
  • Experience in library automation systems, including OPAC, cataloging with MARC records, and Follett Destiny, as well as other circulation, acquisition, statistics and record-keeping modules
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Windows and Mac OS, as well as a proclivity for learning new software
  • Ability to lift boxes of books and to kneel while working
