The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on 62nd Street in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT AND JOB DESCRIPTION

The Browning School seeks a Lower and Middle School Computer Science and Engineering Teacher  that will help facilitate innovation at Browning. This person will be responsible for teaching Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) classes Grades 2-7.  Other topics in CSE classes may include digital citizenship, video production, desktop publishing, and information literacy. The ideal candidate will also help Lower and Middle School faculty integrate technology into their courses.  We are seeking a candidate that is a highly creative thinker that can act as a technology leader at Browning. The Computer Science and Engineering Teacher reports to the Director of Program Innovation and the Computer Science and Engineering Department Chair.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Teach Computer Science and Engineering courses (50% teaching load). We will provide extensive professional development for teaching CS and Engineering. 

  • Facilitate a classroom and curriculum focused on STEM and specifically Robotics

Innovation Integration

  • Assess current technologies and help create innovative program decisions.

  • Collaborate with Faculty and Administrators to integrate technology into their curriculum.

  • Provide leadership on the technology committee.

Student and Teacher Support

  •  Provide faculty, students and staff with guidance using educational technology.

  •  Deploy and develop a 1:1 iPad (LS) and Chromebook (MS)program.

Desired Skills and Interests

  • Excited to learn and teach coding and engineering to elementary and middle school students; professional development in pedagogy provided along with support for CSE courses.

  • Passionate about encouraging young people to take on complex and challenging ideas and practices and helping them build a portfolio of work. 

  •  Lego EV3 experience, or a desire to learn more about EV3 and coach First Lego League. 

  • Views technology education as an interdisciplinary liberal arts project enriched by a deepening understanding of ethics, identity and creativity.

  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and problem solve.

  •  Experience troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues relevant to the classroom, and STEM education

  •  Excellent collaboration and communication skills
