St. Matthew’s Parish School is seeking a Middle School Makerspace Innovator and Coordinator. The role of the Coordinator will include developing, supporting, and overseeing a wide range of activities in the makerspace including curricular and co-curricular activities as well as partnering with teachers to assist them in their desire to integrate engineering/maker projects into their curriculum. Candidates must have a strong understanding of child development, enjoy young adolescents, and display a passion for project-based learning. Candidates should enjoy collaborating with colleagues and engaging in the entire school experience. 

Teaching and Learning

  • Teach Upper Division maker classes and related elective/s

  • Co-teach alongside homeroom or subject teachers to integrate design thinking, making, and engineering

  • Hold open “lab” sessions during lunchtime

  • Support faculty and students in areas such as 3D modeling, laser and vinyl cutters, electronics, etc.

  • Support student and teacher work in the makerspace and assist with the creation of maker portfolios and maker-related projects

  • Mentor middle school students in designing and implementing maker projects

  • Foster a culture of making

Makerspace Management

Work in collaboration with members of the Technology Department to manage the Upper Division makerspace

  • Maintain a clean and organized lab and project storage space

  • Possess a working knowledge of tools and equipment

  • Purchase and maintain appropriate tools and supplies for UD maker space(s)

  • Manage inventory and handling of materials and consumables

  • Perform equipment and facilities repairs and preventative maintenance

  • Oversee the workflow, organization, and management of digital fabrication projects

  • Work with the Director of Communications to manage lab calendar and equipment use

  • Organize and curate displays of student work

Technology

  • Work with the Technology Department to support faculty and students by providing basic end­-user technical support.

  • Troubleshoot issues related to faculty and student laptops, iPads, printers, projectors, etc.

  • Support faculty in the use of learning management software, grading software, and other technologies related to teaching and learning

St. Matthew’s graduates matriculate to highly selective independent secondary schools. English class sizes range from 11-15 students. Students have access to a wide variety of technology, including 1:1 iPads and laptops.
