Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is currently recruiting for a Manager of Network Engineering to join their robust IT Department.  The Manager of Network Engineering will report to the Director of Infrastructure and provide management and direction for the data (WAN and LAN) and voice network team. The Manager will provide consulting, problem determination and resolution, system installation and configuration, application support, and needs analysis to support the use of technology by faculty, staff and students.  In addition, they will manage and maintain Data Network infrastructure and Telecom infrastructure with focus on best practices and manage all aspects of the various University data center facilities (on premises and outsourced) including network and telecom cable plants, fiber conduit system, and all data closets. The Manager of Network Engineering will oversee projects to ensure timely and accurate completion of work orders and projects and they will be the primary contact with vendors pertaining to IT Network and Telecommunications Infrastructure and products.  They will also coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with University and other Campus Information Technology teams on strategic and tactical initiatives and provide input on planning and direction for Infrastructure systems and service activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure highest level of performance from the team, through strong leadership and open communication.  Ensure the quality and quantity of work meets the highest standards. Manage all aspects of student employee’s affairs (i.e. time sheets, reviews, hiring, and termination).   

  • Perform personnel functions as assigned for employees who are direct reports.

  • Responsible for developing and controlling project plans, resource assignments and monitor workloads to ensure timely and accurate completion. Responsible for developing tactical and strategic plans for network administration, capacity planning, quality control, operating system upgrades and hardware upgrades.  Participate in the establishment and implementation of standards, processes, and documentation that guide the design of technology solutions including architecting and implementing solutions.   

  • Maintain open communication with other IT teams and customers to better understand their technology requirements and issues. Collaborate with them to provide consulting, problem determination and resolution, system installation and configuration, application support, and needs analysis to support our customers. Provide hands-on technical support for all aspects of daily operations of the university network and telecom infrastructure.

  • Manage vendor relations, contracts and services for infrastructure products and services.  Provide strategic input and direction for these infrastructure services.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience with the management and operation of complex systems and networks (voice, video, and data).

  • Experience with telecommunications.

  • Solid working knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in Avaya IP telephony system administration. 

  • Solid working knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in Cisco network equipment administration.

  • Solid working knowledge of ACD, PBX, and other related telecommunications systems.

  • Strong working knowledge of network management, network security, and network test equipment.

  • Strong working knowledge of QoS, E911, call routing, and dial plans.

  • Strong working knowledge of local and wide area communication technologies.

  • Strong working knowledge of multiple routing and switching protocols .

  • Experience with F5 load balancers.

  • Strong working knowledge IPv6 and BGP.

  • Strong working knowledge of structured wiring standards, codes, policies, and procedures in copper and fiber optic cabled environments.

  • Ability to collect the appropriate information from the user to expedite the resolution the problem. Demonstrate good judgment in investigating and escalating problems.

  • Excellent knowledge of information technology trends and practices primarily in networking, telecommunications and server administration.

  • Consistently show ability to recognize and deal with priorities.  Recognize and perform duties that need to be performed. 

  • Ability to keep up with the pace of change in technology.
