Purdue University is seeking a forward thinker with a focus on using technology to overcome problems for our Manager, Network Operations role. Infrastructure as Code, Intent Based Networking, Hybrid Multi-Tenant Cloud, and Lights-off Operations are key strategic initiatives you will take part in. You will support our campus wide environment to maintain a reliable network with high levels of performance. You will report to the Director of Networking & Telecommunications and manage a team of 10 to 15 Network, Voice, and Wireless Engineers. You will also provide direction for daily activities, long-term projects, and participate in break-fix scenarios. You will utilize your expertise to provide technical leadership and drive operational effectiveness to our wide-area voice, video, and data networks as well as prioritize team workload against current and future operations to ensure success. 

Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills are required to proactively communicate with customers, engineers, and vendors in collaboratively identifying and resolving issues with the up-most urgency. You will oversee a robust Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Core network supporting a large SIP (VoIP) network, data centers, super-computing, and wireless. Additionally, you will support peering network for IPV4 and IPV6 to regional campus and research partners. You will also develop network policies and procedures. Finally, you will plan, develop, monitor, manage and report on the budgets required to support the network while managing an operating budget in excess of $3M.

Network Operations at Purdue University deploys and enables reliable and high capacity data and voice network across the campus and to and from the outside world. This includes new and cutting edge network technologies for our 6 internationally ranked high performance computing clusters. Support is provided for academic, research, administrative and recreational network usage delivering a high-quality service in a challenging environment. The core network infrastructure consists of approximately 2000 Cisco network switches and nearly 10,000 Wireless access points across 220 buildings. Purdue external networks process over 3PB of data weekly to the internet, and service approximately 75,000 daily user devices during the academic year.
 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Five years of experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining telecommunications systems

  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience

  • Experience with network monitoring tools and Network Operations Center activities

  • Experience supervising technical staff.

  • Ability to manage a professional workforce spanning both the normal work day and after hours support

  • Progressively responsible experience in information technology with a wide range of network technologies

  • Experience with large network environments including engineering and design experience

  • Expert knowledge of voice, video, and network services

  • Extensive understanding of Cisco network configurations

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact with a variety of customers in a professional and customer focused manner

  • Project management experience with the ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously, as well as adhere to project timeline and budget constraints 

  • A valid US or Canadian driver's license 

Preferred:

  • Experience supervising technical staff in excess of 10 FTEs 

  • Experience engineering cloud capable solutions to support Hybrid Cloud functions

  • Campus telephony and network design experience.

  • CCNA certification
