General Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum
    • Determine the sequential program of library and computer skills development for each grade level.
    • Work with teachers to develop cross-curricular plans that support classroom learning.
    • Teach computer and library skills on a weekly basis to students in grades 1-5.
    • Assist all SCS teachers by supplying curricular support.
  • Collection
    • Evaluate materials in the media center and virtual library as determined by selection policies.
    • Read and review sources for information on selecting materials and equipment for the virtual library and media center.
    • Maintain an updated and appropriate collection in the virtual library.
    • Order materials and equipment for the media center.
    • Enlist faculty participation and recommendations in evaluating and selecting materials for the virtual library and media center.
    • Maintain a current electronic catalog for the complete collection.
    • Inform faculty of new acquisitions, programs, etc.
    • Maintain periodical collection.
    • Prepare and submit circulation and inventory reports to administration as requested.
  • Supervision
    • Supervise work of non-professional staff, student aides, and volunteers.
    • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the media center facility.
    • Plan and oversee all aspects of the SCS Book Fair.
    • Assist in developing media center policies and practices.
    • Implement media center policies.
  • Testing
    • Create MAP testing schedule for grades 1-5.
    • Implement and supervise all MAP testing for grades 1-5.
    • Assist teachers in acquiring and interpreting MAP reports.
    • Manage the media center and virtual library budget items.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Lower School Principal.
Requirements

 

Southside Christian School is seeking a Media Center Specialist for the 2018-2019 school year. Qualified applicants must have appropriate degree and experience with biblical integration in teaching library and computer skills. Previous experience working in a media center or library is preferred. A strong record of quality instruction and classroom management is required. The ideal applicant will demonstrate a strong desire to work collaboratively with the Lower School team to develop cross-curricular lesson plans that are standards-based and must be able to coordinate all aspects of the school's media center and virtual library. Applicants must be able to obtain ACSI teacher certification. Experience working with elementary students in reading intervention strategies is also preferred.
