Additional Information

Purpose

To advance the mission of The Foundry, a makerspace located in the Fine Arts Library branch of the UT Library system, by overseeing equipment, and providing technical, operational, and instructional support to Foundry staff, faculty, and students.

Essential Functions

Provide customer service and support to UT students, faculty and staff in The Foundry and FAL Media Lab to use equipment, audio, video, still and 3D production software and hardware. Supervise and train student staff who will be providing hands-on assistance to users. Perform basic maintenance and repair of Foundry equipment, technology, and facilities. Support TLS projects and initiatives and/or Libraries-wide projects and initiatives.

Required qualifications

High school graduate or GED. Four years of applicable experience. Knowledge of relevant equipment and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming, Macintosh and Windows operating systems, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and audio editing software. Demonstrated ability to interact in a professional manner with all levels of faculty, staff, and students. Effective customer service and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to be supervised and to maintain a work schedule. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment. Ability to plan, manage workflow and problem solve. Strong interest in and curiosity about digital media software (examples include ProTools, PhotoShop, InDesign, FinalCut Pro, GarageBand, iMovie, Maya, etc.), hardware and equipment. Strong interest in assisting users (UT students, faculty and staff) to create digital media projects

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor degree or working toward a Bachelor's degree. Experience using audio, video, still and 3D production software (see examples above). Experience with hardware and devices, including 3d printers, CNC mills, laser cutters, and other equipment. Experience assisting people to use technology. Experience related to the job functions above. Interest or experience working in a library setting.

Working conditions
