Lincoln Street Campus

Rowland Hall Middle School (grades 6–8) and Upper School (grades 9–12) make up the Lincoln Street Campus and serve a combined 500+ students with a focus on developmentally appropriate academic, emotional, and social growth. Each division promotes a strong culture of professional growth, collegiality, and collaboration for teachers. The Upper School offers students an engaging and challenging academic program, including extensive co-curricular offerings in the arts, debate, and athletics, and also provides numerous service learning opportunities and internships. Upper School signature programs include the Rowmark Ski Academy; a nationally ranked debate team; an award-winning literary magazine, Tesserae; and several partnerships with the University of Utah and other local organizations. The Upper School runs a 1–1 laptop program while the Middle School uses iPads. Teachers in both divisions use the Canvas learning management system and Veracross as a student information system.

Position Summary

Rowland Hall is seeking to hire a dynamic and innovative educator to teach in and help build our Middle School and Upper School computer science and robotics program. The ideal candidate would have teaching and academic experience with computer science, robotics or a related STEM field and a passion for inspiring young people through technology education. Engaging in collaborative curriculum development and integration with colleagues is also a key aspect of the role as the school is growing its computer science and robotics program.

Responsibilities include:

• teaching Middle School and/or Upper School technology, coding, robotics and maker

  classes;

• helping to develop and grow a kindergarten through twelfth grade CS program in

  coordination with members of the technology team and other CS teachers;

• helping coach the Rowland Hall robotics teams that will compete in FIRST robotics

  competitions (includes some afterschool and weekend responsibilities);

• learning and teaching new technologies, topics, and methods;

• collaborating with other teachers and the director of technology integration to build the CS

  program and integrate CS into classes across other disciplines;

• possibly teaching an advisory class.

The Ideal Candidate

Classroom experience and a background working with teens and adolescents is preferred. The ideal candidate is focused on the learning and well-being of students. In addition, a Rowland Hall teacher has excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and a commitment to reflecting on their practices and continuously improving them. Strong candidates will also show interest in engaging with the school community while advocating for students, supporting parents, and collaborating with faculty and staff. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree and/or teaching experience are preferred. In addition, the ideal candidate:

• has the ability and interest to work with middle and high school aged students;

• is a flexible thinker who is eager to learn and experiment with new concepts, ideas, and

  evidence-based practices;

• has teaching experience, industry experience, and/or advanced academic training that would

  enable them to teach higher-level CS courses such in AI, statistical modeling, simulations, data

  science, and/or engineering;

• has an interest in and/or experience with project management and design thinking

  implementation in industry or classroom settings;

• demonstrates cultural competence in and a commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially as they relate to technology and computer science;

• has the desire to support and promote the mission and values of the school;

• values and seeks out professional learning and development opportunities;

• demonstrates proficiency using a learning management system, web-based applications, and other online resources.

This is a full-time, exempt position beginning August 1, 2022, that reports to the Middle School principal.
