Friends Seminary, an independent co-educational Quaker school in New York City, seeks a Middle School Technology Integrator to join the Faculty in August 2017.  This full-time, 10-month position also includes 2 weeks of technology work at the beginning and end of the school year.  The Middle School Technology Integrator reports to the Director of Technology and the Head of the Middle School.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Middle School faculty to model, support, and inspire the use of technology to support excellence in teaching and learning
  • Design, collaboratively plan, and teach Technology classes for students from 5th through 8th grade that emphasize creative problem-solving with computer science, robotics, and design
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate technology into their existing curricula or develop new curricula
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate across disciplines using technology resources
  • Seek out new technologies and resources and train users in their educational applications
  • Work to manage and maintain the 1:1 iPad program in the Middle School
  • Work closely with the other Technology Integrators to create a seamless K-12 technology sequence
  • Work to design, develop and program activities within the new Maker Space facilities being planned for the school
  • Support administrators, teachers, students, and parents in learning how to be good digital citizens through curricular and co-curricular programming
  • Serve as a Middle School advisor and club leader

 

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree, Masters preferred.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience
  • Interest and experience working with Middle School aged students

 

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with teachers to integrate technology
  • Experience developing curricula
  • Experience delivering professional development workshops to teachers
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware problems, including iPads, OSX laptops, desktops, and projection systems
  • Experience working with Google Apps and Learning Management systems.
  • Creative and self-driven technologist and educator
  • Experience with programming, robotics and 3D design technologies, preferably Scratch, Arduino and Tinkercad
  • Collaborative team member who is experienced communicating with and synthesizing the needs of multiple groups, including teachers, administrators, students, and parents.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Interest and experience in creating maker environments conducive to tinkering, designing and innovation
  • Commitment to creating a safe, respectful and dynamic digital environment for students to learn and grow
