40 hours/week, school year only

The Middle School technology teacher creates and teaches intermediate computer skills such as media arts, coding, design, robotics, productivity, and a variety of software applications appropriate for Middle School students, in collaboration with Middle School faculty, within the context of the Middle School curricula. S/he is responsible for seeking out and introducing technology innovations that enhance the educational program of the school. The next technology teacher has an opportunity to move the MS Technology program forward and expand it in creative and dynamic ways.

The MS technology teacher attends MS division meetings and reports on technology issues to the Instructional Technology department. The MS technology teacher collaborates closely with the librarians to support and augment each other’s instruction and with the technology support staff to maintain the school’s computer network and technology offerings. The MS technology teacher may also provide some staff training in a variety of technology applications as appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Technology Teacher

o Initiate, develop and teach technology curriculum, under supervision of Director of Technology and Director of Middle School;

o Lead scheduled technology classes grades 6-8;

o Assess and report on student progress;

o Schedule and supervise the MS Technology Lab;

o Maintain equipment in MS Lab and carts for curricular use;

o Organize and offer technical equipment for MS student and teacher use;

o Research and recommend purchases to augment curriculum.

Software Application Areas

o Basic operations, such as OS functions, email, LMS, and online documents;

o Multimedia arts and production;

o Computer-aided design & rapid prototyping;

o Coding & software development;

o Productivity & collaboration;

Basic Technical Proficiencies Preferred

o Macintosh, Windows, iOS, ChromeOS;

o MS Office & 365, Google Drive/Apps;

o On-location and studio-based video production;

o Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere;

o SketchUp, Sculptris or other 3D modeling;

o JavaScript, Python, Processing or other programming languages;

o Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other microprocessors

Instructional and Software Support

o Occasional one-on-one and group instruction with faculty and staff;

o Consultation with support staff for student account creation and maintenance;

o Application-level support for content-area technology tools.

Liaison to Middle School

o Participate in Middle School faculty meetings;

o Participate in Middle School Open Houses and Parent Curriculum Nights;

o Participate in some Middle School grade-level team meetings, as appropriate;

o Participate in Library/Instructional Technology meetings;

o Serve on school and/or division committees;

o Consult with MS faculty members on technology pilot requests.
