Purpose: The Network Administrator’s role is to engineer, implement, monitor, maintain, and administer computer, server, and network infrastructure.

Essential Functions:

Quality and Quantity of Work:

Consistent high-quality work with minimal supervision

Research, implement, maintain, and administer all network equipment across campus, including: switches, router, firewall, content filtering, and wireless access points
Research, implement, maintain, and administer all servers and services, including: authentication, security, file, web, database, e-mail, LDAP, Open Directory, Active Directory, DNS, & RADIUS Servers
Implement, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain server backup solution
Upgrade software, desktop computers, servers, and network equipment
Oversee, maintain, troubleshoot and repair network desktop computers, laptops, servers, printers and network equipment
Create, monitor, and maintain security and virus policies for all computers
Creative problem solving

Respond to and work on special projects as needed

Research, evaluate, test, and help in the selection of new hardware and software for school use
Research, evaluate, test, and recommend productivity, networking, and server software
Continually review emerging technologies and software
Implement test environments for special software and lab images

Administer user network accounts
Provide technical support for administrators, faculty, staff, and students

Communication:
Effective, appropriate and timely communication with the Technology Director
Thorough documentation of processes in the Technology Department

Requires a high amount of professional confidentiality
Completion of administrative tasks and obligations in a timely manner
Takes initiative
Represent the school in a positive manner
Appearance should reflect professional position during normal school term

Education and Experience:
Extensive working knowledge of computer hardware, software, peripherals, and related technologies
Extensive working knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components for LAN’s, WAN’s, and the internet
Strong knowledge of security and networking best practices
Strong technology literacy
Experience managing technology infrastructures
Experience troubleshooting and using Mac OS
Experience troubleshooting and using Windows Operating System
Experience with Windows Servers
Experience with Networking equipment
Experience with Firewalls
Experience with enterprise backup, anti-virus, patch-management, desktop deployment and policy strategies
Experience with Mac and Windows integrated environments
Familiarity and experience with LDAP, DNS, Active Directory, POP, TCP/IP, HTTP
Knowledge of wireless networks implement, configuration and security
Ability to explain technical jargon to general audiences.
Experience with working with children
Experience working in an education environment preferred

Must be able to work with multiple distractions and changing priorities
Must be able to work occasionally during off-peak hours
