OVERVIEW
The Network Administrator will manage and maintain the network and related server infrastructure for Catlin Gabel’s primary campus as well as the CENTER located in North Portland. The Network Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the health of Catlin Gabel’s technology infrastructure as well as being the main person responsible for providing access and services to Catlin Gabel’s end users.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, test, recommend, implement, and manage secure, effective, and efficient network systems and infrastructure including but not limited to switches, routers, wireless access controllers and access points, cabling, and wireless access control systems. Manage hardware and software upgrades. Troubleshoot connectivity problems
  • Provide end-user workstation hardware and software technical support, particularly troubleshooting and workstation-network interactions, for faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Manage VOIP phone and voicemail system, including maintenance, support and upgrade (as needed). Maintain proper configuration of phone numbers, extensions, ports, call routing, and voicemail options. Ensure emergency alert system is tested and maintained regularly
  • Provide backup support and maintenance of Catlin Gabel’s Windows server environment
  • Respond to technical requests from the Director of Technology and other Technology staff in a timely manner. Regularly communicate project status and take responsibility for project completion
  • Provide backup support and fill-in assistance to the Systems Administrator including performing routine systems and maintenance checks when necessary. Complete network and server maintenance work after hours and on weekends when necessary
  • Research and test new innovative and creative technologies for integration into Catlin Gabel set of technology tools
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills and abilities on new and emerging technologies that improve efficiency and effectiveness included but not limited to new networking technologies, methods, systems, hardware, and software. Make recommendations for proceeding in new directions where appropriate
  • Create and maintain internal network systems documentation including hardware and software maintenance records, inventory records, procedures, configurations, troubleshooting methods and tools used. Maintain an organized and up-to-date library of online resources
  • Develop and maintain inventory of all Catlin Gabel owned/leased technology

 

SCOPE OF WORK
The Network Administrator is primarily responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the school’s networking environment. The successful candidate must adapt to the academic calendar and its seasonal priorities, be comfortable with and adept at multitasking, exercise sound judgment in establishing priorities, regularly communicate with other members of the technology staff, participate in shared decision-making, and work independently and effectively manage his/her time. The ability to communicate and work effectively in an academic setting with teachers, students, administrators, and parents of widely varying skills and abilities is critical.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This is not a supervisory position

 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
Daily interaction with the Catlin Gabel community including: faculty, staff, students and parents. Communications include face-to-face, phone, and electronic interactions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or industry network certification, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with configuring, deploying, managing and troubleshooting network equipment. In-depth knowledge of OSI model, and routing and switching
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in a Microsoft Windows Server based environment
  • Experience managing application and network services such as Windows Server 2008/2012, Hyper-V, VMWare, IIS, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, SQL, Exchange, Azure, and Office365
  • Experience securing wireless network for varying levels of access
  • Knowledge of network security best practices
  • Experience working in network hardware CLI
  • Basic knowledge and utilization of scripting language, specifically shell, Python or PowerShell
  • Analog phone system, Junos OS. VOIP, and Aruba knowledge desired
  • Experience with SQL, Linux administration, VMWare, SCCM, MDT, MacOS, Veeam, and Mobile Device Management a plus

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
BS/BA in Information Services/Technology, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent previous experience with network administration and individual in-person support.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional heavy lifting up to 50lbs. Walking required between multiple buildings on campus. Interface with young children through adults. Time spent on phone. Working with people in person. Time spent working on computers.
