Ranney School seeks a Network & Systems Administrator who can assist with the ongoing maintenance of our campus computer systems and help plan the future growth and expansion of our computer network. The Network and Systems Administrator will be responsible for maintaining our current network and server systems and work closely with our IT Desktop Support for desktop troubleshooting and staying updated on the latest support tools and processes. The ideal candidate for this position is networking certified and is well-versed in cloud computing solutions (primarily Google G-Suite services and G-Suite administration). Preference will be given to candidates who have experience at the enterprise networking level
and can also work well with legacy systems.

Our campus technology is advancing quickly and Ranney School is looking for a candidate who is meticulous and able to balance Network and System Administration responsibilities while offering additional administrative support to end-users around campus. The position will require supporting technology needs from an entire campus perspective as well as individual departments throughout our Lower, Middle and Upper Schools as well as our Administrative departments.

Candidates will ideally have a bachelor’s degree in a computer science or engineering related field and experience in a role maintaining corporate or school networking infrastructure and end-user support.

Key Skills and Qualities:

  • 3+ Years successful network troubleshooting experience

  • Cisco CCNA, CCNP or related certification(s)

  • Must be able to complete complex projects while maintaining day to day operations

  • Proven experience managing large and complex networks

  • Highly adept in firewall and network system configuration

  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong safety record and a history of establishing safe work practices

  • Must have a ‘front-end’ personality with strong interpersonal communication skills should be service-oriented

  • Adept at building relationships with colleagues and should have a collaborative spirit

  • Ability to support software and hardware needs of both students and faculty/staff

  • Ability to support the back-end needs of the technology department (installing, maintaining and supporting school hardware; supporting a wide array of student and faculty technology needs)

  • Candidates will ideally have significant experience supporting G-Suite environments,

  • Blackbaud systems (On-Suite, FE, RE) and Microsoft networks (or similar).

  • The ability to learn new technological systems quickly and then support the needs of a wide array of users is critical.

  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Windows Server environments (2008, 2012, 2016, +) with technical knowledge handling Domain Controllers, DHCP, Active Directory, Group Policy, File Server and other Windows Server features

  • Programming background is a plus.

  • Linux experience is a plus.

  • Computer Science teaching experience could offer a unique opportunity.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the ongoing work and advancement of the technology department

  • Determine organization networking/system needs and ability to install and configure all network systems and security.

  • Maintain networking systems and ensure all systems are operating correctly and maintain security profiles.

  • Work closely with departmental managers and employees to determine future network needs and plan for network changes.

  • Develop methods and tools to be used to test and implement new LAN/WAN equipment.

  • Maintain and monitor server infrastructure using advanced RMM software

  • End-user hardware and software support

  • Train users on the proper use of hardware and software

  • Create projects that are designed to add functionality required by the school

  • Address network failure issues

  • Engage in regular network troubleshooting activities to resolve network issues.

  • Ability to climb ladders to inspect ceiling and wall cabling and replace/run new wiring through ceilings and conduit, when necessary.

  • Program switch ports and maintain network infrastructure backups

  • Maintain school data backup systems and perform data backups and disaster recovery operations for both on-site & off-site data.

  • Should be capable of being present to support the school network in emergency scenarios, if they occur, after-hours.

  • Operate master consoles in order to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.

  • Maintain and diagnose issues with a wide variety of hardware and software problems, and replace defective components when necessary.

  • Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.

  • Monitor network performance and recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.

  • Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs

  • Coordinate with vendors to facilitate purchasing

  • Assist with writing Acceptable Use Policies and Service Level Agreements
