POSITION SUMMARY:   The Network and Systems Specialist acts as a lead technical member of the Information Systems department, with primary responsibility for oversight and administration of the CCDS network infrastructure and computer systems. This position will also be responsible for the planning, design, implementation and maintenance of these systems.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Administration, Install and upgrade of hardware and software for Windows and Linux servers in a primarily virtual server environment.
  2. Administration, Install and upgrade of hardware and software for networking infrastructure.
  3. Manage and document system installs, upgrades, moves, adds, and changes.
  4. Monitor and tune application performance of servers, LAN, and WAN.
  5. Manage server and data storage backups.
  6. Coordinates and interfaces with outside support personnel as required.
  7. Manage disaster recovery planning and testing.
  8. Maintain accurate documentation of device and network configurations.
  9. Set up and maintain effective user accounts in Active Directory.
  10. Assists with the desktop hardware and software configuration and deployment.
  11. Working with the Information Systems team, heads up planning and implementation of major Information Technology projects.
  12. Coordinates accurate record keeping for hardware inventory and software licensing.
  13. Provide telephone and in-person support for faculty and staff as needed or assigned.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:  Performs similar job related duties as assigned.

 

eDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Desired:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  2. 3+ years experience in network design and management.  (Certification preferred.)
  3. 3+ years experience in management of MS Windows servers (Current certification preferred)
  4. 3+ years experience with Active Directory, file and print services, security and system management utilities.
  5. 2+ years experience with cloud technologies, Google Drive, Office 365, Hosted Applications
  6. 2+ years experience with virtual server setup and management.
  7. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and Scripts
  8. Experience with Remote Access Solutions
  9. Experience with Firewalls and Content Filter Technology
  10. Experience with Linux and open source programming languages (PHP, Perl)
  11. Solid understanding of wired and wireless LAN concepts and protocols.
  12. Ability to recognize, analyze and resolve application problems
  13. Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and over the phone.
  14. Organized and detail oriented, with the ability to balance short-term tasks and long-term projects.
  15. Experience in an educational setting and the ability to interact well with children.
  16. Experience with PC computer platforms.  Macs a plus.
  17. Experience with setup and configuration of PC computers.
  18. Experience with PC software packages, including MS Office suite.
  19. Ability to work as an effective team member within the Information Systems department.
  20. Ability to work well in “one-to-one” computer support situations.
  21. Ability to stand, sit, bend, crawl, reach and climb as needed to access computer and network equipment in offices, equipment rooms, equipment racks and small confined spaces.
  22. Manual dexterity to work with tools, controls, small connectors and parts.
  23. Ability to read, write and type at a reasonable speed and accuracy.
  24. Physically fit and able to independently lift and carry weights up to 45 pounds over reasonable distances.
