Solebury School seeks a highly qualified Network and Systems Specialist to begin July 1, 2018. An ideal candidate would have a thorough knowledge of network and server management, as well as an interest in technology as it relates to a school setting. This position also entails working with the entire faculty and staff to help develop competency and skills in the area of technology use.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The school’s administrative schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, the need for IT support and a fully functional infrastructure often includes evening and weekend hours.
 

Essential Functions

  • Set up, install, and maintain servers and network operating systems
  • Create, document and implement IT-related Standard Operating Procedures for operations and disaster recovery
  • Develop appropriate GPO and desktop settings deployment systems for the variety of school machines and users
  • Work with the Director of Technology to establish IT policies and systems that align with the school’s academic program and overall mission and to discover and propose technological solutions for existing issues or improvements
  • Regularly inspect/evaluate equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems
  • Research and recommend new products and/or systems for potential purchase
  • Build and maintain relationships with other key people/organizations:
    • School administration to discuss progress and priorities related to curriculum and overall school mission
    • Facilities Management Team to discuss, maintain and constantly improve the school’s IT, automated control and fire safety systems, and general facilities management infrastructure
    • Director of Finance to provide detailed project and budget analysis
    • IT staff to project goals, establish deadlines and outcomes
    • Hardware and software vendors

Qualifications

  • Relevant and demonstrated experience working with computer networks and systems administration and implementation of appropriate security measures, along with the ability to balance these with the business and academic needs of the school
  • A professional qualification or demonstrated competence in the following technology specialties: Firewall, Networking, Wireless, Switching, Servers, Services, Applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both as a team member and individually on projects 
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deliver effective and high quality solutions to problems
  • Experience working in a school setting a plus

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting (up to 50 lbs), carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine motor dexterity
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, deal with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines and work with a varied and diverse array of people
