BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services,  manages the acquisition, installation, configuration and support of network infrastructure, computing devices, and related technology. Supervise, train and coordinate District technology staff. Develop and assist with the adoption and support for District and school technology. Assist with the development and oversight of technology budgets. Identify and resolve problems/malfunctions in networking systems including protocols, hardware and software.  Assist staff with computer /network operating systems and related applications and technical training. Function as Webmaster, Postmaster, Network and Internet Security Engineer for the District.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:  

  • Leads, oversees and participates in the purchase, implementation, installation, upgrading, monitoring and troubleshooting of the District’s physical network infrastructure, including servers, routers, switches, wireless components, other device hardware, computer equipment, related technology equipment and multi-platform network operating systems and applications. 

  • Oversees and participates in the design implementation, configuration, upgrading, testing, troubleshooting, tuning and maintenance of a variety of network services, including; email services; web and proxy servers; print and file services, wireless infrastructure, VoIP, hosted environments, cloud based computing and remote access. 

  • Serves as network security administrator, including administering the District firewalls; monitors network intrusions; develops, recommends, implements and enforces the District’s network security policy and remote access standards and guidelines; maintains security on network and server equipment. 

  • Develops and recommends network contingency and disaster recovery plans Designs and ensures the recoverability of lost data through proper and adequate backup and data recovery methods. 

  • Supervise, assign, monitor, and review technology staff. 

  • Assist with the adoption and support for District and school technology committees.

  • Coordinate the acquisition of technology through funding sources such as E-Rate.

  • Supports the deployment of the Common Core State Standards.

  • Provides advanced technical support for the District’s network operating systems and application; troubleshoots and resolves network outages and bottlenecks; provides information, technical direction and training to staff on activities required to implement projects, systems hardware and software installations and upgrades, new procedures and techniques. 

  • Install, upgrade and maintain District email services. Postmaster/Administrator for District’s Exchange email servers and hosted email applications. Assist staff with training on processing of client side email / exchange tasks.  Perform tasks that will ensure reliable secure content delivery, storage and archiving. 

  • Oversees and participates in the purchase, implementation, installation, upgrading, monitoring and troubleshooting of the District’s telecommunications network.

  • Maintains and updates schematics and documentation of network structure and devices; Reviews new or revised projects for conformance to established technical, system and operational standards; Coordinates work with other technology staff to ensure appropriate network availability to meet end user and operational computing needs.

  • Develops and recommends network contingency and disaster recovery plans.  Designs and ensures the recoverability of lost data through proper and adequate backup and data recovery methods.

  • Performs network administration tasks. 

  • Oversees and participate in the design and installation of new network system in conjunction with other departments and/or vendors, including implementation of new facilities and technologies. E

  • Research and evaluate new technologies for possible implementation within the school district, provide technical advice concerning the purchasing and implementation of new and existing technologies.

  • Provides leadership and direction in district-wide technology planning, computer acquisition, applications development, and computer operations to increase access to information and facilitate productivity

  • Train technology and school staff on new technologies introduced into the district. 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Identifies short and long-term district-wide information and technology needs and develops strategies for systems development and technology acquisition and integration.

  • Network architectures and theory and principles of local and wide area enterprise network design and integration, including topologies and protocols.

  • Principles and practices of advanced network administration.

  • Industry design and configuration standards for enterprise networks, including: hardware, network protocols and network operating systems.

  • Network management systems, including principles and practices of security management and security design.

ABILITY TO:

Supervise and evaluate assigned staff. Perform analysis, modification, and testing of existing networks and operations. Produce and maintain highly technical documentation to support network systems. Operate and manage a variety of computing devices. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from college with a Bachelors Degree in Information’s Systems supplemented with Five years of formal experience in work related to the design, installation and maintenance of network information systems  

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • CNE (Novell Computer Network Engineer) certification.

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or the equivalent is desirable

  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator or the equivalent is desirable.

  • Ability to move from site to site to perform daily tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Wide area network computer installation and office environment.

  • Position requires moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds.

  • Bending.

  • Extended periods of time sitting at a computer keyboard and monitor.

  • Exposure to high voltage attached to minicomputer as well as uninterrupted power supply system.
