General Description

The Computer Technologies Department is in search of a full-time tenure-track faculty to teach various network technology courses specifically related to CompTIA’s A+ and Network+ certifications for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Specific Responsibilities

• Implement or create labs and instruct students in the creation, performance and understanding of concepts related to course student learning outcomes

• Manage hardware and software used in class

• Develop, implement, revise and maintain courses and curricula.

• Develop and implement student retention-related activities, and participate in articulation with four-year schools and outreach with area high schools.

• Participate in the intellectual life of the department, and a willingness to participate in the life of the College through leadership in department and college-wide committees.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely related field required.

• Either a Net+, CCENT or CCNA certification (with current transcript on file with either CompTIA or Cisco) required.

• Two (2) years of relevant work experience required.

• The ideal candidate must be able to implement or create labs and instruct students in the creation, performance and understanding of concepts related to course student learning outcomes:
o Network attacks and virus characteristics.
o Network Cabling Media (BaseT, Cat5, Fiber, etc.)
o Network Protocols, Ports and Services (i.e., TCP/IP, TFTP, DNS, DHCP, ICMP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP and VoIP).
o Utilize network addressing (Mac, IPv4, IPv6).
o Configuration of File, Proxy and Print Servers.
o Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
o Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance.
o Network Security concepts (IDS /IPS, SSH, Encryption, Steganography)
o Logical, Physical and Wireless Topologies.
o Network Design and Devices (i.e., DMZ, IDF, MDF, Demarc, Hubs, Switches, Routers, Bridges, etc.)
o Number Conversions (Decimal-Octet-Binary-Hexadecimal).
o OSI and TCP/IP Models.
o Utilize network utilities (i.e., Arp, net share, Hostname, Netstat, Nbtstat, Ping, tracert, etc.)
o Linux to Windows Integration methods.

• Recent demonstrated teaching experience required.

• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required.

• Willingness to manage hardware and software used in class.

• Willingness to develop, implement, revise and maintain courses and curricula.

• Willingness to develop and implement student retention-related activities, and participate in articulation with four-year schools and outreach with area high schools.

• Commitment to participating in the intellectual life of the department, and a willingness to participate in the life of the College through leadership in department and college-wide committees.

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching experience at a community college is highly desirable.

• Competence in online teaching preferred.

• Ability to teach various network technology courses specifically related to CompTIA’s A+ and Network+ certifications.
