The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College invites qualified applications for Networking & Information Systems Administrator. This full-time position reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Broad range of Information Technology skill competencies combining Networking Administration, Systems Administration, Data Center Management, Information Technology/Cyber Security, and Information Technology Systems Support.

  • Networking Systems: Ethernet switching, virtual local area networking, wide area networking, firewalls, wireless access points and controllers, monitoring systems (PTRG), power systems/uninterruptible power supplies, Power Over Ethernet systems, networked security systems including cameras and door access systems, etc…

  • Data Center Systems and Management Physical host servers, data storage systems, and virtualization (VMware & Microsoft Hyper-V), Software as a Service administration (Office 365, Blackboard, VidGrid…), cloud and remote location co-hosting management, data backups and restores…

  • Server and Desktop Operating Systems and Database Administration Windows Server and Microsoft SQL, Server and Desktop Software Installation and Support, Assurance Testing, System Configuration, Updates and Administration, Cloud System Administration (Azure), Windows Active Directory (Federated Service), Azure ADFS/Identity Management, IT Security, Microsoft Office 365 Administration (including requirements for C# programming and power shell scripting), remote desktop and remote desktop web server…

  • IT / Cyber Security: System Event Log assessments, monitor computer/networks for security issues and remediate, investigate security breaches/incidents…

  • IT Systems Support: Troubleshooting, software installation and assurance testing, licensing server management, print servers/networked printers, document imaging servers, end-user support, Help Desk, telephony & voice mail…

  • This staff person is assigned jointly across multiple departments within the Information Technology Division: Campus Computing & Networking and Information Systems (formerly Management Information Systems). The Division also includes Instructional Design & Media Services (Online Learning).

  • Staff person is considered as “Essential Staff” and shall be on-call for outages and emergencies, plus serving all Help Desk functions during non-business hours. This is a critical component of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Information Technology field and experience in enterprise scaled IT operation

  • 5+ years of related experience

  • Appropriate IT certifications desirable

SPECIFIC PROJECTS & TASKS:

Rio Grande’s physical network & communications infrastructure is solid and capable of meeting today’s administrative and instructional needs.

  • Strategic Agenda Initiatives:

    • Replacement of a legacy telecommunications system (Siemens Hi Com)

    • Refresh network switch fabric (3 years)

    • Refresh data centers (3 years)

    • Continued implementation of IP camera and door access systems

    • Replacement ERP system (RFP/bid/implementation)
