The Town School of Manhattan, NY seeks an organized, dedicated, and reliable Network/Systems Administrator. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a technology infused environment implementing and maintaining systems that support the learning community and our 1:1 device program. The successful candidate should be comfortable interacting with students, parents, trustees, alumni, external vendors and colleagues. This person resides in the Technology Department and reports directly to the Director of Technology.

General Responsibilities

The Network/Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining the technological infrastructure of the school. This includes monitoring, maintaining and upgrading all major components of the wired and wireless network (switches, routers, access points, and cabling), the academic and administrative servers, security, phone, and backup systems. This person also has the opportunity to teach and mentor students and faculty on how to use and integrate into the school curriculum. Working closely with the Director of Technology, the Network/Systems Administrator supports and implements the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Town’s Technology Department.

Specific Duties

Network Infrastructure

? Monitor, manage, and report regularly on the health of the network, servers, security, backups, firewall, email (Exchange 2010), and Internet service.

? Install, maintain, and upgrade network wiring, switches, and wireless network.

? Maintain accurate and complete documentation of the network.

Hardware and Software Maintenance and Installation

? Install, setup and repair Apple and Windows servers.

? Upgrade and maintain hardware components (memory, hard drives, CDRoms, drives, etc.) as required.

? Manage software installation and upgrades on servers

? Maintain accurate and complete documentation for all servers, systems and hardware.

Online Services and Directory Accounts Management

? Administer the school’s Intranet – Town Today – .

? Maintain, modify, and monitor Google Apps for Education Accounts, Add-Ons and services.

? Create, manage, and delete Active Directory accounts as needed.

? Coordinate online re-enrollment process with front office, registrar, and development.

? Coordinate online inquiry and application process with admissions office.

Help Desk Support

? Troubleshoot daily networking, software, printer and hardware problems submitted to the help desk ticketing system.

? Respond to help desk requests by telephone, email, or visits to classrooms and administrative and teacher offices.

? Follow up with users, recommend upgrades, and coordinate with vendors for resolving problems.

? Maintain excellent communication with all end users and other members of the technology department.

Director of Technology Assistance

? Serve, with Director of Technology, as technical contact to vendors when necessary and accompany and verify vendor onsite work and support.

? Assist Director of Technology in communication of policies and procedures to end users.

? Work on special projects as requested by Director of Technology.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

Combination of education and training equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Engineering / IT Systems field.

Experience

Minimum two years relevant work experience, preferably in an educational setting and mixed platform environment.

Skills

? Demonstrated knowledge of Windows and Apple servers, desktops, laptop products, and directory services.

? Demonstrated knowledge of Blackbaud systems preferred, but not required.

? Demonstrated knowledge of Exchange Server 2010

? Demonstrated knowledge of Google Apps for Education

? Demonstrated knowledge of LAN and WAN products and protocols.

? Demonstrated ability to administer a 400+ node network including firewalls.

? Demonstrated working knowledge of current communications devices and network protocols, server and desktop technologies.

? Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action for technical and computer-related problems.

? Ability to manage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously.

? Facilitation and change management skills.

? Highly developed verbal and written skills.

? Ability to analyze existing procedures and develop improvements for optimum use of technologies.

? Orientation and training of new staff.

? Ability to articulate technical information to non-technical audiences.

? Ability to interact with users in a professional, cooperative, and courteous manner

? Patience and flexibility.

? Ability to collaborate with other members of the Technology Department to support the successful delivery of technology services throughout the school.
