The Network / Systems Administrator works with Maryville University Virtual Server / VDI environments, using information technology to ensure the stability and use of all server based systems for Students, Faculty, and Staff. These systems are local to the site as well as Polynimbus based services which include the management of server OS, maintenance, patching, DHCP, DNS, and other interdependent systems.

Support, in some cases, will include working with third party providers and other internal teams to ensure services are operational at all times. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a welcoming environment for a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Administration, setup, and maintenance of Windows based servers

  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, system processes, hardware, and review of system and application logs

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities with a friendly sense of urgency in support of University objectives

  • Provide day to day troubleshooting for production and test hardware, OS, software, and operations issues

  • Responsible for daily backup monitoring and management

  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of computing hardware and software in compliance with University standards

  • May participate in the design, architecture, rollout, and maintenance of University technology initiatives and projects and/or perform additional department duties as required

  • 2nd tier support for all IT Service Desk escalated support issues

  • Maintain accurate information within server management tools and systems

  • Other duties as assigned by the Network Services Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of hands-on system administrator experience.

  • VMware virtualization and SAN configuration and management

  • Proficient in Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 

  • Strong experience with Server Management tools

  • Ability to configure servers for different functions (print server, DHCP, DNS)

  • Knowledge of Office365 and integration with Active Directory

  • PowerShell knowledge

  • Ability to apply patches using both windows updates as well as in-house patching solutions

  • Experience with server and desktop imaging products.

  • Experience with Network connectivity including TCP/IP, wired and wireless infrastructure

  • Ability and willingness to work irregular hours as required to maintain the infrastructure and hosted services without interrupting core business operations or functionality, including scheduled weekend maintenance windows and on-call rotation.

  • Must exhibit excellent problem-solving skills and be able to quickly diagnose system problems and implement solutions to restore functionality.

  • Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision, with a proven ability to prioritize and multitask with exceptional attention to detail. 

  • Ability to support the following hardware: 

    • Windows PC’s and laptops

    • Mac devices

    • Apple Tablets 

  • Good written and oral communication skills; ability to discuss technical issues with all levels of Staff & Faculty 

  • Outstanding customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on Computer Information Systems or Information Technology 

  • A+ certification, MCP, MCSE, MCSA, and related certifications preferred

  • Experience with telephony, ShoreTel

Physical Demands

To perform the duties of this position, the candidate must have the ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, twist, reach, and carry, lift, pull, push between 1 – 25 lbs. Candidate must use a computer, with repetitive movement of both hands. Candidate must be able to work an 8-hour shift, with frequent overtime. Candidate must be available to travel to various locations if necessary.
