Responsibilities

  • Manages the analysis of the needs of functional departments and works to establish priorities and feasibility studies and systems design and implementation; directs subordinate staff as appropriate.

  • Establishes and recommends changes to policies which affect the department.

  • Ensure systems projects have appropriate design review, project management, and quality assurance plans in place prior to implementation.

  • Ensure optimal availability/uptime and maintain a quality production environment through disciplined and structured release management strategies, including coordination with production control partners and application vendors.

  • Manages issues, project and initiatives of moderate scope, complexity and impact.

  • Coordinates efforts of all staff on the Operations team to ensure optimal uptime of division resources.

  • Establishes long term infrastructure roadmap.  Assists with and directs disaster recovery and business continuity planning.  

  • Manages through subordinate staff and supervisors the planning, design and implementation of the campus' data communications network. 

  • Monitors the daily operation of department/section through subordinate staff and supervisors, the coordination of activities of a department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees.

  • Interacts regularly with members of staff and units across the campus.

  • Manages the security of campus information systems access. 

  • Establishes security systems, appropriate firewall standards and criteria.

  • Frequently review system security policies and ensure compliance with campus security guidelines.  Work closely with Security Team to conduct frequent security scans and review.

  • Delegates work, monitors work and ensures objectives associated with timelines and deliverables are being achieved. 

  • Develops and monitors operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning.

  • Directly and indirectly supervises a student team in collaboration with the Student Leadership Coordinator and the student leads; participates in the annual cycle of recruitment, hiring and training; shares responsibility for developing and sustaining a strong student leadership program.

  • Maintains a positive relationship with other departments and personnel that will assist in the development, funding, promotion, and/or public relations of the Division of Student Affairs and SAIT. Supports the success and objectives of SAIT.

  • Identifies and selects training opportunities for professional development. Participates in cross-functional group discussions, activities and other training efforts. 

  • Adheres to University and departmental policies, procedures, and professional practices as well as city, state, and federal laws. Also responsible for adherence to UC Berkeley’s Data Classification Standard, Minimum Security Standards for Networked Devices and Minimum Security Standards for Electronic Information. 

  • Other duties as assigned.
