The Project Manager, Science & Technology Platform (PM) is responsible for overseeing the Computer Science team, as well as the day-to-day coordination and overall management of project activities in the areas of data collection, analytics, computing, and database organization, including providing training to research staff, regulatory submissions, and coordinating communication with project leadership, staff, and regulatory authorities. The PM will be responsible for overseeing the team’s deliverables, identifying variances in the project plan and to develop contingency plans when necessary to keep project milestones on track. In addition, the PM will also directly manage three employees on the Computer Science team with the potential for future team growth.
 
The PM will work with faculty and staff at all levels throughout Ariadne Labs and with external stakeholders, will play a key role in shaping and implementing a new data strategy for Ariadne Labs, and will develop infrastructure, procedures, and tracking systems for project management. Project management responsibilities include scrum/agile methodologies, hiring and onboarding new staff, developing and maintaining workflows, and managing multiple projects and budgets simultaneously.
 
As part of the Labs’ matrix structure, the PM will sit on the Computer Sciences team within the Science & Technology platform and will work with research teams in a variety of health domains such as surgical safety, palliative care, safe childbirth, and primary healthcare. The PM will be supervised and supported by the Science and Technology Senior Manager.

Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Day-to-day oversight and management of computer science staff, project deliverables and timelines

  • Identify and coordinate new processes, system functionality, system changes, and enhancements to support clinical information, provide optimum productivity, and increase compliance with quality indicators

  • Project planning, including:

    • understanding the project objectives 

    • building a project plan, including timelines and deliverables, and agile methodologies that meet those objectives

    • revising and updating the tasks, timelines, and deliverables as appropriate

    • Managing, tracking, and updating the program budget 

  • Partner with computer scientists to collect requirements for product design and software enhancements

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • 5+ years of related experience, including managing multiple projects and people simultaneously, required

  • Prior supervisory experience required

Additional Qualifications

  • Advanced experience with Agile/Scrum preferred

  • Strong background with scripting languages, database systems, cloud, mobile, data lakes, AI/machine learning, and other relevant technologies preferred

  • Experience with user-centric software design preferred

  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred

  • Familiarity or experience with HIPAA regulations preferred

  • Experience collaborating with clinicians preferred

  • Experience with IRB relations or human subject protections preferred

  • Data visualization skills preferred

  • Proven software engineering manager with strong leadership and mentoring skills preferred

  • Experience effectively leading data management projects preferred

  • Experience in working productively in a matrix organization, accessing and delivering the right input from and to the right people, at the right time preferred

  • Familiarity or experience with health or scientific systems research preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and discussions preferred 

  • Logical and rigorous thinker, with experience integrating new information rapidly, comprehending large amounts of information, drawing conclusions, and clearly communicating key findings preferred

Duties and Responsibilities continued: 

  • Proactively identify risks, roadblocks, dependencies or other challenges to successful execution, and effectively drive resolution toward a successful release

  • Collaborate closely with investigators to develop, design, and implement protocols, data collection procedures, and data use agreements

  • Develop systems, tools, and infrastructure needed for projects, including staff training, regulatory submissions, event tracking and reporting, deviation and violation tracking and reporting, data collection tracking and reporting

  • Provide team with technical expertise as well as recruit, hire and manage staff in support of the growing Science & Technology Platform. Meet regularly with staff and provide comprehensive annual performance reviews

Ariadne Labs

  • Participate in Ariadne Labs’ organizational meetings, updates, and community building activities

  • Communicate Ariadne Labs strategic and organizational updates to platform and team members, and communicate back to Ariadne Labs leadership on important issues affecting the Science & Technology Platform and platform members when appropriate

  • Share learnings from the Science & Technology Platform across Ariadne Labs’ program and platform teams

  • Model and reinforce Ariadne Labs’ values by serving as a steward of not only of the Science & Technology Platform, but of Ariadne’s overall mission and goals
