Position Overview 

The QA Analyst will own the testing strategy and quality of applications and processes across our data systems.  He/She/They will join a team that supports the assessment, development and implementation of a vision to build efficient, effective, and flexible national data systems to support data collection, verification, and reporting across the entire KIPP network.  The role will focus on data related to our students, alumni, staff, and schools as our organization supports each student’s academic path, college and career decisions, and beyond.  As we take on new data streams to better understand our students’ journeys, the QA Analyst will be responsible for ensuring our new database features fully meet business needs, pressure testing that edge cases in new data streams are covered by requirements as well as in implementation and monitoring the quality of our existing systems.  He/She/They will also work with a nationwide community of data specialists at our schools and regions to ensure data quality issues are solved in KIPP Foundation systems in a timely manner.   

The QA Analyst reports to the Director of Data Systems and manages the quality and persistence of database products. He/She/They is a member of the Information Technology team, and works collaboratively with the Research and Evaluation, Insight and Analytics, KIPP Through College, and Network Talent teams as well as other business units throughout the organization. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Own the quality database products through the testing of new product features 
    • Work in close collaboration with both our Product Management and Engineering teams to ensure products meet requirements and ensure timely release of new features 
    • Own plan for testing, execution of test cases/scripts, analysis of actual results, and defect tracking 

    • Create and maintain QA documentation including test cases, test scenarios, scripts, plans, and expected results based on requirements 

    • Develop and execute a plan to identify, collect and load necessary test data to effectively run test cases 

    • Provide another lens for design feedback prior to integration from a technical and end-user perspective 

  • Execute development, implementation and testing of processes for collecting new data streams  

    • Document issues and recommend improvements on product features and data loading processes 

    • Participate in and verify data profiling analysis of new data streams to ensure edge cases have been covered in requirements 

    • Support all members of RE team in analyzing and ensuring high quality in on-going loading processes in efforts to make collection and loading as low burden as possible 

  • Support data cleaning and validating from our schools, regions and third-party vendors  

    • Develop and maintain critical regression tests to ensure changes to products or data sources do not adversely affect existing data quality and loading processes 

    • Support Product Manager – Data Systems and Senior Data Systems Engineer in cleaning and validating data related to students, teachers, and schools necessary for monitoring the health of our network from our schools and regions and to track student achievement 

    • Support Data Collection Specialist in identifying, diagnosing and correcting data quality and product issues identified by our schools and regions 

    •  Provide feedback and recommendations in other, on-going data quality efforts provided by the team (e.g. user testing of surveys, graphical user interface testing of web collection portals, exploratory testing of assessment platforms, etc)

Experience and Qualifications

  • This is a time limited, grant funded position 
  • 3+ years’ experience in a QA Analyst role 
  • Passion for KIPP’s mission and values 
  • Extensive experience in a SQL language  
  • Hands-on experience using and testing Salesforce applications preferred 
  • Experience in python or testing automation platforms preferred 
  • Excellent attention to detail and constant focus on data quality 
  • Adept at working with team members in a fast-paced environment while balancing competing priorities 
  • No geography restrictions – remote required during COVID 
  • Limited travel may be required in the future 
  • Full-time, exempt
