The Dalton School, a K-12 independent, coeducational school located in Manhattan, is consistently recognized as one of the top independent day schools in the nation.It has a total enrollment of about 1,300 students and a faculty and staff of approximately 350.  

Dalton’s Engineering Department is looking to expand its staffing with a part-time robotics mentor and coach. This position pays hourly, with regular meeting times on Wednesday from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, weekend hours for robotics tournaments, and additional hours during the peak of the robotics season.  
 

Responsibilities: 

  • Mentor Our VEX Robotics Team  

The new faculty member will be part of a team that supports 7th and 8th-grade students as they design, build, and program robots for the VEX Robotics competition. This includes helping teach project management skills, supervising students while they work, and acting as a resource as they troubleshoot. The team meets and works in the Engineering & Design Center, which includes a wide variety of traditional and digital fabrication tools.  

  • Supervise Students at Robotics Competitions 

Our VEX Robotics team will attend 1-3 competitions in the NYC metro area. The new faculty member will travel with the team, supervise students, and coordinate with other coaches.  

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Coursework towards an Engineering BA/BS or industry experience  

  • Ability to safely supervise students as they use basic tools (e.g. hand saw, drill, screwdriver) 

  • Experience working with students in or outside of a traditional academic context 

  • Basic programming experience, including the ability to use or learn introductory C++ 

  • Specific experience as a mentor or participant in an educational robotics program (e.g. VEX, FIRST, PLTW) is a plus
